A classic chignon will always have its place, but it’s how you play with the shape, volume and finish that can make it feel completely fresh.

FROM THE ARCHIVES | Mid 1990s ❤️

This photograph holds such a special place in my heart.

Taken in the mid 1990s, it captures an unforgettable evening at The Art of Hair in Beecroft, when Anthony, Sacha, Dennis Langford and the extraordinary TONI&GUY team joined us for an intimate training event following Hair Expo and the announcement of TONI&GUY’s launch in Australia.

To welcome educators of this calibre into my salon and to have the team learn from them so personally was the kind of opportunity dreams are made of.

We all look so young, so fresh and so full of excitement, with no idea of just how much life and change lay ahead.

I will always treasure the education, inspiration and generosity shared with us that evening, and remember with great affection the late Dennis Langford, whose vision and contribution helped shape an important chapter in Australian hairdressing. ❤️

PART 3 | Creating with Flyscreen Mesh for Avant-Garde Hair

Sometimes the most unexpected materials can become incredible tools for creating avant-garde hair.

For this intricate skull cap, I used flyscreen mesh, yes, the same material used to keep mosquitoes out!

Its flexibility allowed me to stretch and mould it directly over the head, creating a strong foundation for the design. From there, I followed my original pattern, carefully placing small pieces of hair to build the finished look.

This was a long and detailed process, but that’s the beauty of avant-garde work. It’s about experimenting, problem solving and looking beyond traditional hair materials to bring an idea to life.
