🐾 NOW AVAILABLE — JUNIOR HANDLER FOUNDATIONS PROGRAM 🐾

Great Junior Handlers aren’t just made in the show ring.

They learn to understand the dog at the other end of the lead. 🐕❤️

The Pet Industry College is excited to introduce our new Junior Handler Foundations Program, developed specifically for Australian Junior Handlers aged 7–19 years.

This short online course is designed to help young handlers build knowledge and confidence not only in the show ring, but in the areas that really matter when working with dogs.

🎓 The program covers:

🐾 Animal Care, Welfare & Understanding Dogs
Learn about daily care, welfare, canine behaviour and body language, recognising stress, illness and injury, and understanding what dogs need to be physically and emotionally well.

🐾 Safe Handling & Working with Dogs
Develop safe and respectful handling skills, learn how to approach and work with unfamiliar dogs, build trust, use positive reinforcement and adapt your handling to different dogs and personalities.

🏆 Junior Handler Competitions
Learn about ring etiquette, preparation, presentation, teamwork, confidence, sportsmanship and what to do when things don't quite go to plan.

Most importantly, the program reinforces one message throughout:

The welfare of the dog always comes before the result in the ring.

Junior Handlers are the future of our dog community, and we want to help them become confident, knowledgeable and respectful young people who are proud ambassadors for responsible dog ownership and animal welfare.

Participants complete one online module made up of 11 sections and knowledge quizzes and receive a Certificate of Completion when they successfully finish the program.

🐕 Learn about dogs.
🤝 Build the partnership.
🏆 Develop the handler.
❤️ Always put welfare first.

The Junior Handler Foundations Program is now available through The Pet Industry College.

At The Pet Industry College (RTO 70236), we are proud to continue our long-standing support of Assistance Dogs Australia and the incredible work they do changing lives through the human–canine bond. 🐾💙

On 14th May, we encourage our community to get behind their Giving Day campaign — Born to Change Lives.

This year, funds raised will help build two purpose-built birthing suites, ensuring future Assistance Dog puppies receive the very best care from their very first breath. These facilities will help support the next generation of life-changing dogs and the people whose lives they will transform.

Even better — every $1 donated will be MATCHED, doubling the impact of your support!

The work Assistance Dogs Australia does is truly life-changing, and we are honoured to continue supporting an organisation so dedicated to animal welfare, training excellence, and empowering people through assistance dogs.

Together, we can help change lives. 🐶✨

📣 Calling the Animal Industry – We Want Your Input 🐾

At The Pet Industry College, we’re always working to ensure training is industry-led, relevant, and actually useful on the job — not just ticking boxes.

But the best insights don’t come from us… they come from YOU — the people in it every day.

💬 We want to know:

👉 Where are the biggest gaps in training right now?
👉 What do businesses struggle with when it comes to staff skills or progression?
👉 Where are team members getting “stuck” in their careers?
👉 What skills do you wish new staff came with?

And importantly…

🎯 What short courses or upskilling programs does our industry actually need right now?

Think practical, real-world skills like:
• Behaviour & handling
• Client communication
• Animal welfare standards
• Leadership & team management
• Mental health & compassion fatigue
• Workplace safety & risk management

Or something completely different?

👇 Drop your thoughts in the comments or send us a message — we’re listening.

Let’s work together to lift the standard of our industry, support our people, and improve outcomes for the animals in our care.
