One of the biggest mistakes I see migrants make is assuming they have a resume problem.

Sometimes they do.

But often they actually have a clarity problem.

They are applying for everything, considering more study, asking random people for advice, rewriting their resume every week, and spending hours worrying about their future.

It looks like action from the outside.

But underneath it is usually fear, confusion, and not knowing what direction to focus on.

I see this all the time.

Someone comes to me saying:

๐Ÿ‘‰ "Should I do another qualification?"
๐Ÿ‘‰ "Should I change careers?"
๐Ÿ‘‰ "Should I move regional?"
๐Ÿ‘‰ "Should I apply for this role?"
๐Ÿ‘‰ "Should I take a step backwards?"

And what they're really asking is:

"What should I do with my career in Australia?"

Before resumes, applications and LinkedIn, many people first need clarity.

Clarity about:
โ†’ what they actually want
โ†’ where their skills fit
โ†’ what employers are looking for
โ†’ what is realistic
โ†’ and what is fear versus strategy

Because rebuilding a career after migration is hard enough.

Trying to do it without a plan is even harder.

Migrants in Australia know this feeling ๐Ÿ˜ญ

When your manager says:

"Have you got a quick chat?"

And somehow it's never a quick chat ๐Ÿ’€

What workplace phrase immediately puts you on edge? ๐Ÿ˜‚

A lot of migrants think the main problem is their English.

But honestly, communication is so much deeper than grammar.

As someone with a background in English teaching and communication coaching, one of the biggest things I notice is that many migrants accidentally communicate fear, hesitation, uncertainty, or low confidence without even realising it.

Not because they are not capable.

But because migration, rejection, language pressure, and constantly trying to โ€œfit inโ€ changes how people speak, move, and express themselves professionally.

And the hard part is that employers are not only listening to your words.

They are also interpreting:
โ†’ confidence
โ†’ leadership
โ†’ certainty
โ†’ communication style
โ†’ and self-belief

This is why my work is never just resumes.

Iโ€™m also a certified career consultant and communication coach, and a huge part of what I help migrants with is:
โ†’ interview communication
โ†’ workplace culture
โ†’ confidence
โ†’ networking
โ†’ storytelling
โ†’ and understanding how Australian employers perceive communication

Because a lot of migrants are much more capable than they SOUND ๐ŸŒž

What part of Australian communication or workplace culture has been hardest for you to adjust to?

A lot of migrants think they only need a better resume.

But, many people first need:
โ†’ Clarity
โ†’ Confidence
โ†’ Direction
โ†’ Communication support
โ†’ and help understanding how the Australian market actually works.

Over the past few weeks Iโ€™ve worked with people who felt:
โ†’ lost after years in survival jobs
โ†’ disconnected from their old professional identity
โ†’ exhausted from toxic workplaces
โ†’ frustrated that employers were not seeing their level
โ†’ or confused about what direction to take next in Australia

And a huge part of my work is helping people untangle that.

Not just:
โ€œapply for more jobs.โ€

But:
โ†’ understanding strengths
โ†’ identifying transferable skills
โ†’ positioning overseas experience properly
โ†’ rebuilding confidence
โ†’ improving interview communication
โ†’ and creating a realistic strategy moving forward

Because rebuilding a career after migration is emotional work too.

Recruiters hate me for saying this ๐Ÿ‘‡

In most cases, I do not recommend adding your visa status or IELTS score to your resume.

Your resume should focus on your:
โœ” Skills
โœ” Experience
โœ” Achievements
โœ” Value to the employer

Not information that can sometimes lead to unconscious bias before someone has even spoken to you.

There are always exceptions, but generally I want employers focusing on your talent first.

When I've said this in the past, some recruiters agree and some disagree with me - but my job is support YOU and get you to an interview and this will help

So, take it off tonight โŒโŒโŒ

Migrants in Australia know this feeling ๐Ÿ˜ญ

โ€œHey, got a quick chat?โ€

Why does that sentence immediately feel like youโ€™re being called to the principalโ€™s office ๐Ÿ’€

Whatโ€™s an Australian workplace phrase that still stresses you out? ๐Ÿ˜‚

A lot of migrants feel ashamed of survival jobs ๐Ÿฅบ

...... but honestly, rebuilding your life in a new country while learning English, studying, working, surviving financially, and trying to rebuild your career is not failure.

The problem is that many people do not know how to explain this period properly on a resume or LinkedIn, so employers only see the casual work and miss the growth, resilience, communication skills, and career trajectory behind it.

Swipe this carosel and learn some techniques I use with my clients and share this, because this is the biggest mistake so many people make on their resume.

You have much stronger experience than your resume shows.

And I read A LOT of resumes.

The problem is not always your English or your background.

Sometimes employers simply cannot see your level because the resume is too focused on tasks and vague โ€œprofessional soundingโ€ sentences.

And this is also why relying completely on AI can backfire.

AI can only work with the information you give it.

If you are not clearly explaining your projects, achievements, impact, and strengths, it will usually just create longer sentences that sound polished but still say very little.

This is one of the biggest things I help migrants with.

I help you understand:
โ†’ how Australian employers read resumes
โ†’ how to explain overseas experience properly
โ†’ how to position yourself at the right level
โ†’ and how to communicate your value clearly on paper and in interviews

If you want help with your resume, job search strategy, interviews, LinkedIn or communication, send me the word โ€œhelpโ€ and we can chat about how I can support you.

It is hard to rebuild a career in a new country, but sometimes you make it harder buy trying to do it alone.
