More than 400 members across Victoria celebrated this significant achievement in 2026, marking 25 years of dedication to the accounting profession.

Hosted by Anthony Takyi, VIC & TAS Regional Manager, the evening brought members together to share stories, reconnect with peers, and reflect on the experiences that have shaped their professional journeys. Earlier in September, the CA ANZ NSW Annual Charity Event brought our community together for its 11th year, raising an incredible $14,900 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).

Your support will help fund vital research and make a real difference for women affected by breast cancer.

We were honoured to welcome Associate Professor Liz Caldon, Lab Head at the Garvan Institute, who shared powerful insights into NBCF-funded research advancing our understanding of women's cancers.

Our distinguished speakers included Deanne Stewart (CEO, Aware Super), Ainslie van Onselen (CEO, CA ANZ), Dr Cleola Anderiesz (CEO, NBCF) and Cherie Field (NBCF Community Ambassador). Their stories and expertise inspired us all.

🌼In 1893, after years of campaigning, New Zealand women won the right to vote, the first country in the world to do so. We mark it every 19 September as Suffrage (or White Camellia) Day.

133 years on, the fight for equality isn't over. We need to work deliberately so women have an equal say at the highest levels, including on boards across the private and public sectors, iwi and community organisations.

Chartered Accountants bring professional skills and insight to the boardroom. Governance is a rewarding way for any CA to make a difference, and this Suffrage Day we encourage women to put themselves forward.

📰 The data is in: the accounting profession is a critical enabler of Australia's economy.

Our new report, prepared by Oxford Economics Australia, puts numbers to that statement: accounting contributes $82.4 billion to the Australian economy each year, around 3 per cent of GDP, and supports more than 365,000 jobs, making it one of the country's largest industries.

CEO Ainslie van Onselen launched The Accounting Profession in Australia: Economic Impact and Workforce Outlook at Parliament House, with Treasurer the Hon Dr Jim Chalmers MP and Group Executive Damian Ogden. Addressing the launch, the Treasurer said: "A strong accounting profession is a really important foundation for the strong economy."

The findings carry a warning too: shortages are emerging in the roles the economy can least afford to lose, from auditors to experienced tax practitioners. Closing that gap will take government, educators, employers and the profession working together, and the report sets out five practical ways to do it.

Ko Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori tēnei - it's Māori Language Week!

Learning any language has its tricks, so let's examine the tohutō (macron), also known as the pōtae (hat): the horizontal line that sometimes sits atop vowels in te reo Māori.

It's a symbol that indicates a long vowel sound and helps us to correctly pronounce and express the written meaning of kupu (words). In some cases, it can also distinguish between singular and plural meanings.

Some iwi (tribes) like Waikato Tainui chose to adopt double vowels as their convention instead of the tohutō. Whether you use tohutō or double vowels, this practice signals respect for language traditions. It's also worth noting that some iwi, including Ngāti Porou, traditionally did not use macrons, relying instead on context to convey pronunciation.
