🌿 Bush Kindy Learning in Action 🍓
During our recent bush kindy excursion, the children discovered ripe Lilli Pilli berries growing in our natural environment. This sparked rich conversations about Australian native plants, bush foods, and the importance of caring for Country through sustainable and respectful harvesting practices.
Back at the service, the children were actively involved in the process of making Lilli Pilli jam. They helped to wash and peel the berries, observed their vibrant colour and texture, and participated in measuring and mixing ingredients. This hands-on experience supported early learning in:
• 🌱 Environmental awareness and sustainability
• 🔢 Early mathematical concepts such as counting and measuring
• 🔬 Scientific thinking as we explored how heat changes ingredients
• 🤝 Teamwork and cooperation
• 🗣 Language development through shared discussions and new vocabulary
The joy and pride on the children’s faces as they spread their homemade jam onto crackers for morning tea was truly special. Experiences like these foster a deep connection to nature and meaningful, real-world learning. ✨

Yesterday our preschool children were welcomed by the Stage 3 students at Beauty Point Public School as part of our transition to school program. Our preschoolers visit Beauty Point PS in term 2, 3, and 4 each year to start familiarising themselves with the school, meet their soon to be buddies and become aware of what to expect when making that next big step into Kindergarten. Thank you to the team at Mosman ELC and Beauty Point PS, for making this happen! We look forward to our next visit in term 3!

A bush kinder program opens up a world of exploration, creativity and imagination. It help children to connect and develop an appreciation for nature and provides ample learning experiences for everyone.
At MELC, over the last few months, our preschoolers have been going for walks to the local park, collecting sticks and making teepees, finding insects, exploring different colours by smashing berries and seeds they find, using this paint to paint tree bark we found to tell a story and learning how to just be in nature.
