We have some news! And it’s big!

On 2 June Sydney Seafood School was awarded Best Wine List in a Function and Events Venue at the prestigious NSW Sommeliers Wine List Awards. The ceremony took place at NSW Parliament House in the company of the 44 finalists, plus winemakers and politicians from around the state.

This is an extraordinary achievement for a brand new venue, and one that we are incredibly proud of.

When we set out to create a menu and wine list for our Ngara event business, we wanted to showcase the state’s very best seafood and the very best wines that work with it. We engaged the talented sommelier Melissa Moore to craft an exclusively NSW wine list that features some of the most interesting and most delicious wines produced in the state, at every price point.

These wines form part of every event in Ngara, our boutique event space overlooking Blackwattle Bay, but they are also offered to groups doing private cooking experiences with us. Guests in all our public classes also get to taste selected wines from the list to accompany their cooking class creations.

Welcome back to Serious Sauces — a new series in partnership with our friends at Magimix.

Episode 4: Herb Mayo. The easiest sauce to have up your sleeve. Salted capers, cornichons, parsley. Add whatever herbs you love and you’re guaranteed a good thing. Blitz it all in the Magimix Food Processor and you’re done. Perfect for dipping crispy calamari, golden fried fish, or anything fresh from the fryer. Or paired with other proteins like a sizzling roast chicken and duck fat potatoes.

We're absolutely delighted that our Ngara wine list is a finalist in the NSW Sommelier’s Wine List Awards.

These awards, run by the NSW Wine Industry Association, acknowledge the venues and sommeliers who offer their customers wine experiences that shine a light on the diversity, complexity and quality of wines produced here in NSW.

When we set out to create Ngara, our boutique events space at Sydney Seafood School, we knew we were working with a very special proposition, to team NSW's best seafood, sourced from Sydney Fish Market, with the state's best wines. The NSW-first strategy was integral to our offering, and our sommelier consultant Melissa Moore ran with the "drink-local" brief beautifully.

The winners in a variety of categories will be announced at Parliament House on Tuesday 2 June. Watch this space...
