The UP College of Nursing mourns the passing of Dean Teodora A. Ignacio on 17 May 2021. She was 97 years old.

Dean Ignacio was the 3rd Dean of the College and was also a former College Secretary. Former Deans Cecilia Laurente and Luz Tungpalan shared that Dean Ignacio was a much appreciated teacher in Fundamentals of Nursing and taught the subject to her students with compassion. She personified “Manus, Caput, Cor” and often tells her students “You may have the brains but if you do not show compassion to your patients, you are not in Nursing”. Former Dean Laurente further shared that during skills laboratory session and if the procedure seemed not thorough, Dean Ignacio would say “Don’t worry, keep on practicing. Remember, practice makes perfect, so keep practicing. By the time you are engaged in nursing practice, you will do the procedure correctly, smoothly, comfortably without short-cuts.”

Dean Ignacio was instrumental in establishing the UPCN Foundation Inc. which actively supports the activities of the College to this day.

Former Dean Tungpalan remembers that even beyond Dean Ignacio’s retirement years, she would still attend alumni events and she frequently welcomes faculty and alumni to her birthday parties in her residence in Binakayan, Kawit, Cavite.

Dean Ignacio, you and your legacy will always be remembered and celebrated.
