🐶Promoting Responsible Pet Ownership Education Program 🐶
The NSW government runs this educational program to preschools targeting 4-5year old children.
The program aims to educate children how to interact safetly with dogs.
Our pet presenter Mikayla brought in her Portuguese water dog Finick and while the children were given the opportunity to interact and engage safetly with Finick at the end of the session they did also learn some very important messages through stories and song.
🐶when dogs should be left alone
🐶things we should not do to dogs
🐶how to tell if a dog is happy, scared or angry
🐶a safe way to approach and greet a dog
🐶what to do if approached by an unknown aggressive dog
You can also log in to;
www.pettown.nsw.gov.au
where your children can play a game that will emphasise all these important safety messages.

This year National Simultaneous Storytime, took place on Wednesday 22 May 2024 at 12:00pm. Together we read the story Bowerbird Blues🪺
The children all really enjoyed the book and remained engaged throughout the story learning some interesting facts about bowerbirds.
Did you know… A male bowerbird creates a bower to attract a female partner. A female bowerbird chooses her male bowerbird based on his bower.
To follow on from the story and what we had just learnt about bowerbirds the educators created a bower from sticks. We had invited the children bring in a blue item from home to add to our bower and we hid various blue items in our backyard.
We all ventured to the outdoor area as bowerbirds flying around in seek of blue things. Each child gathered a blue item from the yard taking it back to our bower.
This experience was a great opportunity to role play the story we had all just read. We each gain further understanding of a bowerbirds life and importantly the message of do not litter.
Later on in the day, the educators set up some activities that offered extension on the children’s experience and knowledge on bowerbirds.

🔥 Children have a limited understanding of fire risks and consequences.
At the Alphabet Academy we invite our local fire fighters to the service each year. We believe that educating the children at a young age and offering them close interactions creates a positive connection with our community heroes while teaching them life lessons around fire safety.
Following our visit from the firefighters from #081 fire station, our educators planed various experiences to extend on the interest and discussions of recent events in various developmental areas.
See below how some of our happy learners engaged in learning in a fun and purposeful way.

On Anzac Day we remember those who have served our nation in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
To those who've served, to those who are currently deployed, and to their families—thank you for your sacrifice.
🌹 We will remember them, lest we forget. 🌹
Early this morning at the Dawn Service, both Ava and Micha represented The Alphabet Academy during the wreath-laying ceremony, at McQuade Park. We are beyond proud of how well they both represented the service, all the children and their families.

📚 Retelling stories encourages children to use their imagination, expand their ideas, and create visual images as they transfer the plot to a new setting, include different characters, or add new voices.
This particular story time did all the above and more as we use props to touch on cultural tradition and practices as well as a fun enhancement to the topic of healthy eating and the gross motor skill of balance.
Books are so much than pages and words!
What are some stories your children may like to act and retell?
