This course is for apprentices and non-apprentices who want to acquire the skills and knowledge to work in the furniture finishing industry.

About this course
This course is primarily for apprentices who want to acquire the skills and knowledge to work in the furniture finishing sector of the furnishing industry. You will learn how to prepare surfaces, mix and apply stains, apply finishing material, restore furnishing items and operate a range of furniture finishing equipment. You will also learn about occupational health and safety an

d communication skills. You will become a skilled tradesperson in furniture finishing and may move into senior management or operate your own business. Profile of students
The majority of our students are recent school leavers and are now employed as Furniture Finishing apprentices. These apprentices work in a variety of sectors within the Furniture Finishing trade, including antique restoration, kitchen, bathroom or furniture manufacturing, cabinetry, detail joinery, and shopfitting. Our students stem from a wide range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. The section also attracts mature aged students who are up-skilling so that they can engage in employment within the furnishing sector. Profile of teachers
The Furniture Finishing section at Lidcombe TAFE, South Western Sydney Institute (SWSI) NSW is staffed by six highly qualified Furniture Finishers and teachers/facilitators of learning. These Furniture Finishing teachers deliver current industry skills alongside real world experiences gained and developed over many years.

This year, the Cabinet and Furnishing Industry at TAFE NSW Lidcombe are proudly hosting an open day to provide an opportunity for employers, manufacturers, suppliers, potential students, and the community to visit our state-of-the-art facilities as well as learn about the training opportunities that we provide. It is also a chance to connect with other industry stakeholders and promote community awareness and engagement.
