Imagination is where children test ideas, explore emotions and make sense of the world.

Whether they are pretending, storytelling or inventing games, imaginative play supports creativity, language development and problem solving.

There is real learning happening in every imagined world.

Think about that - nearly half of all Australian adults can't read the instructions on a medicine bottle when their child is ill, or fill out a form, or read a label on a food package.

Literacy is not just about being able to read and write. It's about giving people the vital tools and confidence to participate meaningfully in society, improve their health and wellbeing, and live a life with dignity.

Children learn by asking questions. Why? How? What if...?

Every question is a step toward understanding the world, and is a powerful foundation for literacy. When children explore ideas through questions, they build critical thinking, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. Encouraging curiosity helps them grow as confident thinkers and lifelong learners.

Reading and writing are not just skills. They are power.

They are the ability to fill out a form without fear, to read a medical report, to help your child with homework, to understand your rights, to tell your story in your own words and to speak up and be heard. Literacy gives people the tools to shape their own future instead of having it shaped for them.

This National Reconciliation Week, we’re asking our community to go all in for literacy, Language, and a voice for all Australians.

We see everyday how deeply literacy is connected to justice, equality and reconciliation. Literacy gives people the tools to shape their own future instead of having it shaped for them.

For many First Nations children, families and communities, access to strong literacy and language learning has been denied for too many generations through systems that excluded, silenced and disconnected people from opportunity. Reconciliation means facing that truth honestly, but it also means believing something better is possible and being willing to invest in it.

It means making sure every child has the chance to learn, to read, to write, to speak their language proudly and to decide their own future.

This National Reconciliation Week, we’re asking you to join us and go all in for literacy, Language and a voice for all Australians.

If you can, please make a donation today. Your support can help us continue our vital work with First Nations communities.

This National Reconciliation Week, the theme is ‘All In’. Not standing on the sidelines. Not waiting for someone else to do the work. Showing up, listening, and acting towards reconciliation every day.

At ALNF, we see every day how deeply literacy is connected to justice, equality and reconciliation. Because reading and writing are not just skills. They are power, giving people the tools to shape their own future instead of having it shaped for them.

That’s why we’re more committed than ever to working shoulder-to-shoulder with First Nations communities to transform children’s literacy outcomes.

This , please join us in this movement for change. Together, we can empower all First Nations children and young people to be the authors of their own bright futures.

This National Sorry Day, we stand together to recognise the grave injustices inflicted on the Stolen Generations, and the deep and enduring grief and trauma they have caused. We reflect on the responsibility we each carry to support truth-telling, justice and healing, and we reaffirm our commitment to working in genuine partnership with First Nations communities to drive meaningful change.

A huge shout out once again to our incredible young literacy hero, Sammy! 💛

Sammy’s dedication to ensuring literacy and education for all is as unwavering as ever, organising another hugely successful book drive and donating an astonishing 630 children’s books to our Share‑A‑Book program! 📚👏

As Sammy heads overseas, this marks his final book drive for us but we have no doubt this is just the beginning of a lifelong commitment to supporting young learners.

Sammy, we’re so grateful for your ongoing commitment, leadership and big heart. What an inspiration. 😍 👏
