A few months ago I had an incredible opportunity to meet and learn from a teacher who I’ve been following and benefiting from in the frame drum community for close to two decades.

When I first entered the drum world as a teenager Matt’s website was one of the first I ever came accross and engaged with. “Woah there’s a frame drummer all the way out in Australia” I thought to myself. “I wonder if I’ll ever get to meet him” I wondered- knowing - or so I thought (fear of flying and all)- that the answer would be never.

I was mesmerised you see, by his passion, by the classes, the community, the dedication. Most of all- by the name Fingers of Fury- ooooooooffffff!!!! My fingers have fury too I squealed in my head! He was an inspiration in so many ways- a leader in the field- and not just in topic of choice but also in energy! “This person gets itttttt- he gets the obsessionnn” I continued to squeal, to myself.

But little did Anjum know, that one day, in the not so distant future, this desire to meet this long distance hero would come true.

I’ve often wondered, what was it exactly, the exact moment, that God changed the course of my destiny to Boomerang me to Australia. Maybe it was that - wondering if I’d ever meet this phenomenal OG of frame drums.

Fast forward to 2021 - Covid lockdown I thought was the perfect time to invest in a handmade drum by Matt - still complete stealth mode of secret fan girl. And oh what a drum! What a drum! What a drum! Others invest in properties. Your girl invests in drums. It’s one of my life’s best investments 😄

And so, end this dedication I must - to say- it was an absolute highlight of my year to finally meet you - an even greater joy to drum with you. Thank you for all you’ve done and continue to do for the community. It has great impact - across oceans and across years! 💕🥁✨

A huge blessing and inspiration to meet Indonesian scholar and Quran reciter Ustaz Nur Fajri Ramadhan and nasheed singer and Islamic studies teacher Sidi Afendi also on an Indonesian delegation in Sydney Australia last month.

Alhamdulilah for the tie of La illaha illallah Muhammad Al Rasoolullah and to be amongst those who dedicate our talents and time to similar pursuits, Alhamdulilah.
