🔒 Life in lockdown is a challenging time for everyone. With preschools mostly closed down across greater sydney (except for essential workers) there are lots of preschoolers eagerly waiting to head off to big school next year.
While school readiness skills consists of so many things, families across Australia have been using our Bee Ready School Readiness Program to help their child get ready for the huge transition to Big School ⭐️
💭 Why is school readiness important?
The development of school readiness skills allows your child’s teacher to further develop and build upon already learnt basic skills. Those who enter school without them, quickly find themselves playing ‘catch up’ in comparison to peers who have entered school having mastered these skills 🖇

Hey lovely followers 🌟 sorry I haven’t been posting as much lately. We are still busy and operating as usual during lockdown. I thought I would share this reminder to all those parents struggling with home schooling.
Kids do well if they can. Kids with behavioral challenges are not attention-seeking, manipulative or unmotivated. But they do lack the skills to behave appropriately. Adults can help by recognising what causes their difficult behaviours and teaching kids the skills they need.
Behind every challenging behaviour is an unsolved problem or a lagging skill (or both).
Kids who haven’t responded to natural consequences don’t need more consequences, they need adults who are knowledgeable about how challenging kids come to be challenging and help solve those problems.
We’ve learned a lot about children’s brains in the last 30 years. It’s time for our actions to reflect our knowledge. KIDS DO WELL, IF THEY CAN!

📍 Are you concerned about your child’s reading ability?
📚 Learning to read is difficult and does not happen naturally for children, it required explicit instruction and the development of many skills.
🧷 Why is it important for you? As always I believe parents should be involved in their own children’s learning. Being informed about the parts of literacy, how children learn to read, and why they might struggle can help you make better decisions about your child’s education💡
◼️Kindergarten children often need explicit instruction in phonological awareness and phonics. Your child needs to be able to sound out words correctly and quickly to understand what he or she reads. As children get older, the need for this instruction typically lessens unless they continue to struggle with these skills.
◻️ During their Kindergarten years, students are learning about letter and sound system and how print works, including letter-sound relationships, and the meaning of stories read to them.
◼️ Typically by the age of six and seven children are linking speech sounds to letters to make words, learning to decode words, and beginning to make sense of what they read.
📍 What if you have concerns?
As always, speak up if you have concerns about your child’s progress at school. Trust your instinct – however, be mindful of comparing your child with a friend’s child
Some strategies to try:
🔹 Read everything and read often
🔸 Find fun ways to help your child focus
🔹 After finishing a book: Make a chart to help your child track “who, what, when, where, and why.”
🔸 Practice sight words to help make reading more automatic
📍Remember! All issues improve with patience and the right help. Some will actually disappear!
All children, whatever their reading level, have strengths and value – be sure to nurture them ❤️🐝

⭐️ It is so important to give your child the BEST start to their schooling life ⭐️
And this doesn’t just start once they are in school. In fact, you’ve most likely been exposing your child to important words and concepts from when they were only little - without you even realising!
Starting school is a significant milestone for young children, but unfortunately one in five are doing so with a developmental vulnerability.
This means they are behind their peers in one or more critical childhood developmental areas, and the evidence shows that children who start behind tend to stay behind.
I don’t believe parents should be left in the dark when it comes to preparing their own child for school. Which is why I’m here to help make the transition to school so much easier through the Bee Ready School Readiness Program 🌟

✨ Through relationships, children discover who they are and learn to understand others. When young children experience people helping, understanding, and enjoying them, they approach the world with openness and enthusiasm, and they grow to be responsive and caring people ✨
Essentially you are your child’s first teacher, they learn it all from you! I don’t believe parents should be left in the dark when it comes to preparing their own child for school. 📚DID YOU KNOW!? 📚
Children pick up on and absorb vocabulary very rapidly during the preschool years 📈 In fact, it is estimated that by the time they are six years of age, English-speaking children will know approximately 10,000 words! 🧠
Children simply cannot be taught this amount of words instead they learn in incidentally from their environment 👨👩👧👧👵🏻👴🏼
Specific exposure to language-rich experiences such as when parents read aloud to their children has a profound impact on a child’s language development 📍✔️
Its important to note also that not any book reading will do. Children whose parents had been trained to use behaviours such as open-ended questions and praise during book reading made more expressive vocabulary gains than children whose parents had not been trained ⁉️📔
So remember next time you’re reading a book to your children - ask them questions about what they are reading! Encourage them to not only read but also develop an accurate understanding of the story line and the message behind it📝
🔍 Ask questions like: why do you think so and so felt like this- have you ever felt like this too?
Try this tonight and let me know how you go 🙂

💫Before children become successful writers they must develop their pre writing skills. These include skills in their fingers and hands 🐝
Children should have strength and dexterity in their hands and fingers Before they can be expected to hold a pencil, or even master writing letters, children should develop the strength and dexterity in their hands and fingers to successfully accomplish these tasks without frustration or anxiety.
What can parents do at home to help?
- practice holding small items with with tweezers or tongs or pick up items such as cotton balls with a clothes pin
- Play with play dough
- Use a rolling pin to roll play dough
- Use scissors to cut play dough ( honestly the possibilities with play dough are endless!)
- Use a spray bottle filled with water to water plants
- Have children thread items into a piece of yarn

🌟Are leaders born or made? 🌟
💫 Ever wondered if children are “born leaders” or they “learn to be” leaders?
♟Leadership development can be a lifelong process. As adults, we can teach the skills necessary for children to take on leadership roles now and in the future.
Here are some ways that you can help children develop leadership skills:
📚 Model leadership behavior to children. Children learn from seeing what others do. Talk often to your child about what you are doing and why you are doing it.
📚 Teach children how to see things from another’s point of view. Good communication is a key component to being an effective leader.
📚Help children build self-confidence. Give children opportunities to do a good job and offer praise when appropriate. You might say, “I am so proud of you that you volunteered to be the leader of the ‘toy clean up’ team in your classroom. It is a big job to make sure all your classmates are doing their part.”
📚 Children, as well as adults, shy away from leadership tasks because they feel overwhelmed. Give children the opportunity to take leadership roles in the classroom.
With lots of encouragement teaching children how to be a leader at a young age will help them deal with peer pressure in the teenage years. Being a leader is not an exact science, but teaching children the skills needed to be leaders are important to help prepare the next generation to take the lead and become responsible adults.
