The best problem-solving starts with a child's own curiosity. 🌿
When children are empowered to solve real problems that matter to them, they develop critical thinking, resilience and confidence that will support them well beyond the early years.
Our Preschoolers recently discovered their tiny snail home was no longer big enough for the growing number of snails they had been caring for. Together, they decided it was time to build a "mega mansion."
Using natural materials they carefully collected from around the yard, the children worked collaboratively to design and build a larger shelter. This experience also extended their learning about how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples have traditionally used natural resources from the local environment to create shelters and other structures, demonstrating a deep connection to Country and sustainable ways of living.
As they planned, built and refined their design, the children developed problem-solving skills, creativity, teamwork and communication. They also strengthened their understanding of sustainability, caring for living things and using natural resources thoughtfully and respectfully.
This experience aligns with Quality Area 1 of the National Quality Framework (Educational Program and Practice), where intentional, child-led learning builds critical thinking, collaboration and a deeper understanding of the world through meaningful, hands-on experiences.
