Austins Ferry Primary School is experiencing exciting changes in its library, with students now benefiting from a refreshed reading space and hundreds of brand-new books through our Library Regeneration Program.

With a limited annual budget of just $1,500, the donation of more than 490 books has helped the school significantly update its collection and provide students with more relevant, engaging reading material.

Students have already been getting involved, stamping new books, exploring fresh titles, and discovering new series to love.

For more than eight years, students at Warilla North Public School hadn’t seen a library refresh.

With a budget of less than $500 a year, keeping books current and engaging was a challenge. But after receiving brand-new books through Dymocks Children’s Charities, borrowing rates doubled, and students rediscovered excitement around reading.

For many children, the school library is their only access to books.

Help more schools like Warilla North this EOFY.

Our Board spent the day rolling up their sleeves alongside the team at Dymocks Children’s Charities.

From packing brand-new books for our literacy programs to sharing insights and guidance, it was a valuable, hands-on opportunity to connect with the work happening across the organisation, all with a shared goal of helping more children access books and literacy support.

We’re incredibly fortunate to have a Board that is not only strategic in their leadership but genuinely engaged and invested in supporting both our programs and our people.

A renewed love of reading at Tooleybuc Central School

At this small rural school with 117 students, more than 350 brand-new books were introduced through our Library Regeneration Program, helping to refresh and expand their library collection.

Students are now borrowing more frequently, choosing to read during breaks, and sharing book recommendations with their peers. One Year 7 student who previously rarely borrowed books discovered a graphic novel series from the new collection and went on to read the entire series within weeks. He now visits the library weekly and confidently recommends titles to friends.

It’s a clear example of how access to engaging, relevant books can transform reading confidence and enjoyment.

Some Australian schools are running without a library budget.

1 in 5 disadvantaged schools report they have no funding for books. Nearly half are working with less than $1,000 a year.

That means many children are learning in libraries with outdated or limited resources, and for some, it’s their only access to books.

Every child deserves stories that spark curiosity, imagination, and a love of reading.

Donate to the Dymocks Children’s Charities Tax Appeal before 30 June to ensure every child has access to books.
