I am finding that access to many images of "Palestine" have been blocked in some libraries. It is very frustrating when an item shows up in the catalogue but access is denied for no justifiable reason.

Australian soldiers took some wonderful photos of Palestine when they served there in both world wars. So much has changed since then, so much destroyed, that these images have become an invaluable source for preserving history.

When I left my profession as a historian a few years ago, I believed that I was beginning a new chapter that would allow me to help people in a different way. The journey since then has been enlightening, but I realised that I cannot leave the historian in me behind. Especially now. When you understand your history, you feel a sense of belonging; you know who you are.

So I have returned. I will be uncovering more stories, more images, and more voices from the past. Knowledge and history are meant to be shared, to remind us of our past and give meaning to the present.

History is not a competition, nor is it about scoring points. It is reflection, appreciation, learning about, and learning from, the past.

Let's be proactive, raise your voices to end this horror

It has been more than a month since Adelaide’s key landmarks lit up in blue and white in support of Israel.

Now, Adelaide City Council is preparing to vote on whether the same should be done in support of Palestine to acknowledge the ‘tragic loss of innocent lives on all sides’ of the Middle East conflict.
