SUANFC offers all members, students or community members, the chance to play AFL in an inclusive environment, welcoming of all skill levels and experience.

The Growthbuilt Sydney University Australian Football Club (SUANFC), run entirely by its members, is the oldest Australian Rules Club in NSW and the fourth oldest in Australia. The club is a ‘home away from home’ for many interstate players coming to Sydney to study or for work. SUANFC fields 10 teams in the Sydney AFL competition, across both the Men’s and Women’s grades, so no matter your skill

level there is a place for everyone at SUANFC. SUANFC fields a team in both the Men’s and Women’s Premier Division competition and provides a location for some of NSW’s most talented players to continue to develop their skills and participate in a high standard of football competition under quality coaches and a structured high performance program. SUANFC also fields teams in the divisional grades of the Sydney AFL competition, both men’s and women’s, which allows the club to cater for all skills levels, experience and ability. The club also fields two U19’s Men’s teams in the Sydney AFL competition. With a strong focus on player development and connections with a number of junior clubs in the area, the SUANFC U19’s program is a breeding ground for future AFL stars and has seen a number of talented junior players develop and move into the Premier Division program as well as 2nd-tier programs. SUANFC prides itself on its strong club culture of a club run by players for the players, and welcomes anyone interested in being part of the club, whether it be as a player or a volunteer. SUANFC welcomes everyone and anyone to come down, give AFL a go and play a part in this great club that has been going since 1887! Our partnership with Sydney University Sport & Fitness (SUSF) allows our club to provide young people the opportunity to develop as sportsmen and women within a world class high performance sporting environment and at the same time study with the support of elite athlete scholarships. SUSF has over 400 student athletes on sports scholarships, many made possible with the support of corporate and philanthropic Australia. Growthbuilt Sydney University Australian National Football Club (SUANFC) fields 12 teams in the Sydney AFL competition (6 men’s teams and 3 women’s teams, along with 2 U19s teams and a Masters side).

SUANFC is a not-for-profit sporting organisation that exists to encourage, foster, promote, develop, extend the sport of Australian Rules Football within the University of Sydney and the wider community. We strive to provide the best playing environment for our members as well as the promotion of healthy lifestyles, active participation, respect & responsibility, volunteerism and leadership through a culture of community – all within a safe and inclusive environment.

A hard-fought win in classic Melbourne conditions for our Sydney University Intervarsity side.

Our University of Sydney Intervarsity side recently travelled to Melbourne to continue one of Australian university sport’s oldest rivalries, defeating Melbourne University 6.2 (38) to 3.6 (24).

In wet and muddy conditions, the group embraced the challenge and represented the University with professionalism, pride, and respect throughout the tour. More than just football, the Intervarsity Carnival provided an opportunity for students from across the University to build new friendships, strengthen connections, and experience representative university sport together.

A sincere thank you to Melbourne University for their hospitality. We look forward to continuing this tradition in the years ahead.
