📚✨ A huge congratulations to our talented students for their outstanding achievement in the 2025 Australia My Country competition!
In 2025, students explored themes celebrating 110 Years of Anzac and the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Pacific, reflecting on Australia’s history and the values of courage, service and sacrifice.
OLGC Forestville was recognised as one of the top three participating schools, receiving $500 to grow our school library.
Congratulations to Madeleine C. (1st Place – Year 3–4 Written Composition), Georgia S. (2nd Place – Year 5–6 Art), and Charlotte S. and Jasmine H. (Special Commendation – Year 5–6 Art) for their outstanding achievements.
The Australia My Country competition has been inspiring local primary school students since the 1950s, encouraging creativity, historical understanding and community pride.
Their creativity and hard work have helped bring a wonderful new collection of books to our shelves, giving all students even more opportunities to discover, imagine and learn.
We are so proud of your achievement and the lasting contribution you’ve made to our school community. Well done!
Stay tuned as soon we will announce the incredible achievements of the OLGC students in this year’s competition.

Online safety is an important part of children’s wellbeing The eSafety Commissioner highlights that children may sometimes be encouraged to share personal information or images online.
Families can help by:
• Talking regularly about online activities
• Using parental controls and learning about apps together
• Watching for changes in behaviour
• Reassuring children they can ask for help
📘 Families can also access the free resource “Let’s talk about being safe online”.
🎥 Upcoming webinars include sessions on AI and managing screen time for younger children.

Today is World Environment Day.
This World Environment Day, we're celebrating the incredible native wildlife that makes Australia so unique. At OLGC we are so fortunate to share our school grounds with many native species. 🌏💚
By making a few simple changes in our everyday lives, we can help protect local habitats and ensure future generations can continue to enjoy and appreciate our amazing native species.
Celebrating World Environment Day 🌏💚
We, as humans, are so fortunate to be living alongside Australia's wonderful and diverse native species, and so we believe that is why we should strive to make changes in our lives so we can appreciate their beauty for generations to come.
Here are a few things you can do to help wildlife, and the environment, in your local area:
🌿 Choose and nurture native plants in your garden to provide natural food and shelter for local wildlife.
🚮 Dispose of rubbish and garden waste responsibly to keep habitats safe and clean.
💧 Offer clean, shallow water in birdbaths or bowls, with a rock or stick so animals can access it safely.
👧🧒 Encourage children to watch wildlife quietly and respectfully, without chasing or touching.
Aussie wildlife is vital to our ecosystems, and small changes in how we live can make a big difference for native species and the environment.

Reconciliation Week- Jarjum Initiative 🌧️
Despite the rain, our National Reconciliation Week Jarjum gathering was full of connection, culture and community.
With over 50 students and 20 families and school delegates attending, students engaged in cultural learning, storytelling, collaborative activities and connection across schools. A highlight was seeing our older students mentor and support younger Jarjums throughout the afternoon.
A huge thank you to St Paul’s Catholic College for warmly welcoming us into their space and helping make the day so special.
