Have you heard the wonderful news? I am now officially on maternity leave until at least April next year - that's right, I'm going to be a mum! It's time for an exciting new chapter in my life. But, I promise to still offer you all lots of advice and learning opportunities - I will be continuing my popular Facebook updates (both here and on the main Sydney English Teacher page) and will take this time to further develop (and introduce some new) online courses. My monthly newsletters and free online lessons will also continue. If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch - I will be checking emails every day ([email protected]). I love my job and helping so many lovely people reach their goals, how lucky I am to have met so many amazing and inspiring people - I've loved every minute of teaching you all and look forward to continuing this amazing role next year - thanks so much for your support and enthusiasm and for being willing to try a new way of learning with me! Please keep in touch :) Nicole

STUDY TIP 20: Reward yourself for a job well done. Watch your favourite tv show, go to the cinema, meet your friends, do whatever makes you happy – but only if you have completed all of the study tasks on your schedule! :) Nicole

STUDY TIP 19: Start a study group. Don’t do all the hard work by yourself - benefit from the help of your classmates! Arrange weekly study sessions where you can share notes, discuss points learnt, and help each other with problem areas – just talking things through helps you remember, and knowing that you are not on your own, that you have the support of others who are experiencing the same study stress, and that you are a team is often the only ‘push’ that you need, not to mention the fact that being part of a study group forces you to study regularly and to not leave everything until the last minute! :) Nicole

STUDY TIP 18: See if background music helps you work. Some people get distracted and sing along, others can focus much better if there is music in the background. Music can be motivating - it can make studying much more fun. But, find the right music for study success - classical or instrumental music is always the best because there are no words to interfere or distract you. See what works for you. Start putting together your study soundtrack today! :) Nicole

STUDY TIP 17: Express what you are learning in your own words – make sure you know your material well enough to clearly explain it to other people, only then do you know it well enough! Don’t learn whole sentences or paragraphs by heart, digest it, make it your own - don’t just memorise for the short term, make it stick for the long term! :) Nicole

STUDY TIP 16: Look after yourself. Don’t get so caught up in study mode or exam mode that you don’t take care of yourself – make sure you eat well, sleep enough, get some exercise, and drink lots of water. Don’t reward yourself with too many snacks or push yourself to study late into the night – you need to be at your best to achieve the best results :) Nicole
