My purple cauliflower is the last one for the season. Nice size and tight head. Time to replenish the soil and rotate my crops.

Crop rotation helps break pest and disease cycles and replace specific nutrients.

Do you practice crop rotation? Mine is a 4 bed rotation so the same type of veggie only gets planted into the same space every 4 years.

It seems to be working for this cauliflower 😊

Wondering what to do with the kids this school holiday?

I recently hosted a 13 year old birthday party at my place for a friend. 😳

What was initially deemed a party for grannies, our "tea and terrariums" theme was a hit among these young teens. I even heard a scream of "best party ever" directed towards the birthday girl.

The girls loved being creative and colourful with their own terrariums. Best of all, they each got to take home a great gift themselves.

Would you host a party like this?

A perfect day at The Palms Sydney

If you haven't been there before, then it's time to make the trek. It was an hour drive for us, but SOOOO worth it.

The food was fabulous, faultless and the service was beautiful.

Such a lovely time with my foodie friends and garden girls Jillian Penny Lewis

It's actually a plant nursery and homewares store. BUT be warned ... you will not come home empty handed, there are so many beautiful things it's hard to resist the urge to buy everything.

Even the resident peacock put on a dramatic display for us.

What's your best gardening hack? Here's one of mine.

I cover my capsicum with a plastic dome or tunnel over winter to keep them warmer and protect from frost.

When spring arrives, I cut back the thin growth from last season and give them some potassium rich fertiliser.

The result: early flowering plants that produce for longer.

It was pretty miserable weather for my farm tour at Jurlique Natural Skin Care, but I had to see the way they grow and process their herbs and other botanicals for their incredible organic skincare.

The farm is based on biodynamic principles using all the things you'd expect including preparation 500 and lunar planting guides. The fertilisers are made by burying manure in cow horns for 6 months and then putting the liquid fertiliser through the flow-form aerator.

Pest attack is controlled by companion planting with "good bug mix" and release of beneficial insects in the polytunnels.

Being early spring, I knew the display garden wouldn't be as colourful as in summer and autumn with herbaceous perennial plants only just waking up from their dormancy. But it was good to see how they manage pruning and succession planting in the off-season.

Interesting use of crates to grow herbs in the tunnels too.

Almost everything on the farm is still hand harvested, very labour intensive but his allows for quality control before processing.

The herbs and roses are dried on the racks in their drying room before distilling the essential oils and turning the refuse into ash. It is all used in the making of the final skin care products.

It's a very informative tour if you like growing your own herbs and you get to sample the products along the way. I came away with the smoothest, softest hands ever! 😁

It's hard to capture how beautiful this kitchen garden is.

This is the veggie patch used by the fine dining restaurant at Bird in Hand winery.

The winery owner is a landscape designer and this is her chance to show off her skills in her own home garden and winery.

Isn't it perfect!!
