What does Ethical Practice mean to me?
"So, for me, ethical practice across a broad range of surgical practices relates to providing safe care for your patient. And that is from start, intraoperatively, as well as months to years down the track as needed. Plastic surgery in particular does have an added element of being cognisant of patients' subjective views on themselves.
And I think that actually plays a really important factor in being able to say no to your patients, because often procedures will be requested that may not be appropriate. So, to me personally, that actually plays a really important part in my role as a plastic surgeon."

The importance of choosing the right specialist plastic surgeon for you...
"Patients should choose a cosmetic plastic surgeon based on a lot of factors. I think qualification is really important and making sure they're board registered, that they have been trained the adequate standards that are required in Australia, but then also someone that they feel like they can have a really good relationship with. Don't feel scared if you have a consultation with someone to get a second opinion if you don't feel like they're the right doctor for you.
And a lot of patients find that if they have a really good relationship with their doctor, they feel comfortable and confident to bring up any issues they may be concerned about or anything any questions that they may have prior to the procedure."

The journey to becoming a Specialist Plastic Surgeon is long...to ensure the best possible training is received.
My journey to become a specialist plastic surgeon included completing three years of postgraduate medical school, one year of internship, two years of residency and then five years of specialist plastic surgery training during which I completed a master's of surgery.
After this I went overseas for one year where I did further microsurgery and aesthetic training. So overall I did 12 years of training to become a specialist plastic surgeon.
