🔬✨ National Science Week at Arkie! ✨🔬

This National Science Week, our children have been busy exploring, questioning, experimenting and discovering the wonderful world of science! 🌱🧪🌈

Through hands-on experiences, our educators have encouraged children to wonder “Why?”, make predictions, test their ideas and learn through trial and error.

From investigating cause and effect to exploring nature, observing changes and getting messy with experiments, the children have been developing their curiosity, problem-solving skills and understanding of the world around them. 🌏💡

We love seeing those little moments of “WOW!” when children make a discovery for themselves. 💛

Science isn’t just something we learn about — it’s something we explore every day!

Our children embraced the spirit of NAIDOC Week by creating a beautiful collaborative poster that celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and connections to Country.

The children began by exploring our outdoor environment, gathering natural resources to incorporate into their artwork. They then invited children from across the service to contribute their handprints using a selection of earthy colours, symbolising unity, respect and the many hands that come together to honour and celebrate First Nations peoples.

This meaningful experience encouraged children to connect with nature, work collaboratively and reflect on the importance of NAIDOC Week as we continue to learn, listen and celebrate the oldest continuing cultures in the world. ❤️🖤💛

🦖 Dinosaur adventures in Sky Room! 🦕

Our curious little learners had a roaring good time exploring the fascinating world of dinosaurs. Through hands-on play, the children became young palaeontologists, carefully excavating and discovering dinosaur bones while learning about different dinosaur species. This exciting experience encouraged curiosity, teamwork, problem-solving, and imaginative play as they uncovered prehistoric treasures together!

Our children continued to immerse in a variety of meaningful experiences as we celebrate NAIDOC Week. Through art, storytelling, music, sensory play, and exploring natural resources, they have been learning about the rich cultures, histories, and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. These experiences encourage curiosity, respect, and a deeper connection to Country while celebrating the world's oldest continuing cultures. ❤️🖤💛

Today, our children immersed themselves in meaningful Indigenous experiences, exploring Aboriginal culture through creativity and storytelling. After reading Dreamtime stories, they created their own Rainbow Serpent artwork, discussing its significance and the importance of caring for Country.

Using natural resources collected from the land and earthy tones, the children worked together to create a collaborative painting, exploring symbols, patterns, and the beauty of nature. Through these hands-on experiences, they developed an appreciation for Indigenous perspectives, strengthened their creativity, and celebrated the importance of connection, respect, and belonging.

Today in the Woodlands Room, the children explored healthy foods through their senses! 🥕🍎🥒

The children had the opportunity to touch, smell, observe, and taste a variety of fresh, healthy foods, including a freshly picked carrot from our Arkie Garden. We discussed where our food comes from and explored how each food felt, smelt, and looked, using descriptive language such as crunchy, smooth, rough, and soft.

To extend the experience, the children practised using safety knives to carefully cut the fruits and vegetables before enjoying a taste test. This hands-on activity supported the development of fine motor skills, confidence, independence, and safe food preparation skills while encouraging children to explore new foods in a fun and engaging way.

It was a wonderful sensory experience that fostered curiosity, healthy eating habits, and an appreciation for fresh produce grown right here in our own Arkie Garden!

Today in our Sky Room, the children explored their senses through a fun barefoot sensory experience! Using their feet, they investigated different textures, temperatures, and sensations, building body awareness while developing their sensory processing skills. The children showed curiosity, confidence, and excitement as they stepped, squished, and explored their way through the experience!

Today our Arkie children had an amazing time participating in the Ready Steady Go Kids program! Through a fun, all-inclusive environment, the children were encouraged to stay fit, active, and confident while developing important gross motor and teamwork skills. From running and balancing to ball games and movement activities, every child was supported to participate, have fun, and build healthy habits through play. We love seeing our children engage, grow, and shine in such a positive and energetic program!

This week, at Arkie, we proudly engaged in National Reconciliation Week through a variety of meaningful and hands-on experiences. The children explored Indigenous culture, stories, art, music, and discussions about respect, inclusion, and connection to Country. Through these experiences, we aim to nurture understanding, kindness, and appreciation for Australia’s rich Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. We are proud to support children in learning the importance of reconciliation and walking together towards a more inclusive future❤️🖤🧡
