Our children from Discovery Zone boarded The Early Learning Hub bus and headed out on an adventure to Flower Power 🚌
During their time at Flower Power the children had fun exploring and looking at the different plants and flowers. They used their sensory skills to smell, touch, and feel the plants, even making a purchase that can be used in our garden 🌼
The children enjoyed looking at the fountain as they made their way to the playground to have a play on the slides and play equipment before heading back to service.
Engaging with nature and participating in gardening allows children to understand the relationship between living things, spending time in the outdoor environment and fostering skills such as sensory exploration, motor skills and exploring STEM concepts. 🪴

Our Tinker Lab friends headed to Warragamba for an excursion to Warragamba Dam! 💦
We arrived at the Visitor Centre where we met our friendly tour guide Leonie. We learnt about the dam before Leonie read us a book. We engaged in child led play, where we explored bugs found in the dam, built our own dam wall using blocks and drew the dam from our perspective.
We hopped back on the bus and headed down to the dam wall. We explored the open dam gate, water valves and the pipe that carries the water to be cleaned.
We then sat down for some lunch before heading back to The Early Learning Hub excited to tell our friends and family everything we saw and learnt in our local community.

Reading is Magic 📚
To celebrate Book Week 2024, we engaged in lots of wonderful learning experiences throughout to further our imagination and literacy skills. Our families came in for a visit to share a story or two, and even got creative while participating in some fun learning experiences!
Our friends in Explorer HQ even ventured off to Narellan Library where they read stories and borrowed some books to bring back to The Early Learning Hub to share with their friends.

Intergenerational programs provide children and older people the opportunity to engage in the same environment, at the same time. Creating new friendships can benefit wellbeing across all generations and creates opportunities to enhance social and learning skills.
We shared conversations and smiles with the Werombi Court residents at Carrington Aged Care. The children were able to make and share biscuits with the residents and even showed off their basketball skills.

Exploring STEM through play-based learning 🧠
Discovery Zone, Explorer HQ, Maker Space, and the Tinker Lab children have all demonstrated an interest in STEM learning and have been exploring a variety of experiences to further their knowledge and skills surrounding STEM.
What is STEM? STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. When children engage in STEM experiences, they are using skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, communication, and collaborative learning.

This week our friends in the Tinker Lab headed off to Bunnings!
They had their supply list ready, grabbed some trolley’s and ventured around searching aisles and shelves and meeting different people from the community.
Once all the supplies had been collected, they boarded the bus and headed back to The Early Learning Hub, where they would begin to design and build their very own Monster Truck.

The outdoor learning environment provides children with open-ended play opportunities. Children foster their motor skills, risk-taking skills, and explore the natural environment 🌿
Children move more, sit less, and play longer, having more space for larger movements and louder play 🏃🏼♂️🚴🏼♀️
The outdoors constantly changes in response to the weather, season, time of day and the interactions within the environment making it a fun way to learn and play ☀️

Jumping into 2024…
How fun is jumping in puddles? Each one is unique, and you never truly know what’s going to happen when you jump 💧
Children learn about their bodies capabilities by exploring their outdoor and natural learning environments. Jumping and splashing in puddles helps to develop children’s motor skills and fosters their strength and balance skills. And the best part of it all… It’s so much fun 👏
