πŸ“šβœ¨ A Wonderful Visit to Narellan Library! βœ¨πŸ“š

Today our children had a fantastic outing to Narellan Library, where we explored the wonderful world of books, learning and our local community! πŸ’›πŸ“–

During our visit, we talked about how a library works and the important steps involved when borrowing books. The children learned that we can borrow books to take home and return them to the library when we have finished reading them. πŸ“šπŸ”„

We also discussed how to choose and return books to the correct section. The children discovered that the letters shown on the books help us know where they belong. For example, books marked β€œM” or β€œC” need to be placed back in their corresponding sections. πŸ”€πŸ“š

The children enjoyed browsing the shelves, discovering new stories and exploring the Picture Books in Braille. This provided a wonderful opportunity to talk about inclusion and how everyone can enjoy books and stories. πŸŒˆπŸ’•

Our visit encouraged:
🌟 A love of reading and storytelling
🌟 Early literacy and letter recognition
🌟 Understanding how libraries operate
🌟 Responsibility when borrowing and returning books
🌟 Sorting and classifying
🌟 Inclusion and accessibility
🌟 Respect for our community spaces

It was wonderful to see the children so curious and engaged as they explored the library and learned how to be responsible library visitors. πŸ₯°πŸ“š

A big thank you to Narellan Library for welcoming our Macarthur Kids! πŸ’šπŸ’›

🐾 Learning Through The Gruffalo 🌳

Today the children explored the wonderful world of The Gruffalo through creative art, imaginative play and storytelling! πŸ“šβœ¨

The children created their very own Gruffalo-inspired paper plate artworks, using different textures, shapes and colours to bring their characters to life. They also explored a woodland small-world sensory play scene, using natural materials, wooden pieces, leaves, animals and loose parts to recreate the Gruffalo’s forest.

Through this experience, the children were encouraged to:

🌿 Develop their imagination and creativity
🎨 Explore different textures, materials and colours
πŸ–οΈ Strengthen fine motor skills through cutting, gluing and manipulating loose parts
πŸ“š Build language and storytelling skills by retelling and extending the story
🐾 Engage in pretend and small-world play
🀝 Develop social skills through shared imaginative experiences
🧠 Use problem-solving skills as they created their own woodland environments

The children loved bringing the story to life and creating their own Gruffalo adventures! πŸπŸπŸ¦‰πŸ¦ŠπŸŒ³

πŸ§ŠπŸ”¨ FREEZING, EXPLORING & DISCOVERING! β„οΈβœ¨

Our little scientists continued their insect and mini-beast investigations through a fun frozen sensory experience! πŸ›πŸͺ²πŸž

The children used their tools to tap, hammer, explore and investigate the frozen treasures, discovering what happened as the ice began to melt. πŸ”¨πŸ§ŠπŸ‘€

This hands-on experience encouraged curiosity, problem-solving, fine motor skills and scientific thinking as the children experimented with ice, water and hidden objects.

Who knew learning could be this much fun?

🐜🐝 Nature’s Perfect Builders! 🐝🐜

Today in Room 5, our little explorers became animal architects, discovering how some of nature’s tiniest creatures build incredible homes and shelters! 🌿🏑

After spotting two little caterpillars climbing a tree in the garden, the children began wondering about the different ways insects create homes in the natural environment.

Our investigations included:
🐝 Exploring how Australian native bees and wasps make their nests
🏑 Creating mud house hives
🐜 Collaborative ant colony artwork
🎨 Painting ant nests
πŸͺ¨ Sculpting solitary bee nests with clay
πŸ‘ Creating playdough ants
πŸ–οΈ Building an ant colony in the sandpit

The children also explored Australian Native Bees through a PowerPoint presentation and engaged in rich conversations about insects, habitats, natural materials and the amazing structures they create.

Alongside our intentional learning, the children enjoyed potion making, pattern puzzles, dental care roleplay and campfire roleplay. ✨

It was a wonderful day of curiosity, creativity, collaboration and connection with nature β€” reminding us that some of the greatest architects in the world are right in our gardens! 🌱🐜🐝
