Can artificial intelligence help predict breast cancer risk before it is visible to the human eye?👁️

In episode 4 of The Scan, A/Prof Helen Frazer and Dr Martin Gunn explore how emerging AI technology is reshaping breast cancer screening.

Their research is uncovering patterns in mammograms that can identify future cancer risk years in advance, opening the door to more personalised screening and earlier intervention.

With large‑scale trials now underway, this work represents a significant step towards more tailored, risk‑based screening pathways and improved outcomes for women.

A significant milestone for cancer care in Northland. 🌟

A new radiation therapy facility has opened at Whangārei Hospital, featuring the region’s first LINAC. For around 80 per cent of patients who previously travelled to Auckland, this will mean they can be treated locally and stay connected to family and Whānau.

This milestone has been years in the making, with strong advocacy from RANZCR and its members playing an important role in improving access to radiation therapy services across the region.

This is an important step forward in delivering more accessible and equitable cancer care across Aotearoa.
