What a great day I had today - spent the morning with the awesome team from Turtle Rescues New South Wales rescuing stranded turtles from a soon to be drained dam. Stinky job but the team managed to rescue 25 Eastern Long Neck Turtles over the past two days!
Sure beats working 🐢💚

Hello Miss Martha!

Miss Martha is the newest case to come into care.

A member of the public brought Miss Martha into Dural Veterinary Hospital after she had been hit by a car, which fractured her shell.

The Vets got a big surprise when they X-rayed Miss Martha, discovering that she is a soon to be turtle mum!

Miss Martha will stay with me in care, where she can heal peacefully and lay her eggs in safety.

Today I attended a callout for an Eastern Brown Snake an elderly woman had seen in her yard.

She forgot to tell me her yard was just pushing on 10 acres.

Snake remains at large 🐍😂

If you find a snake on your property, do not attempt to catch it yourself. All snakes should be treated as dangerous. 90% of people whom are bitten by snakes are attempting to catch it or kill it. All native snakes are protected in NSW.

Time to Introduce 'Boston' the Blue Tongue Skink :-)

Boston came into care after being bitten by a dog. Tonight we went to North Shore Veterinary Hospital to begin a treatment plan. During our consult, the vets discovered that along with the injuries sustained by the dog, Boston is also blind in one eye, and is suffering from a condition known as Osteomyelitis - this is usually caused by infection and in Boston's case, a large abscess in his upper jaw bone.

Dr. Steph flushed out some of the necrotic tissue and pus from the jaw bone - which will be done daily until all pus is gone.

It's early days for Boston, but with antibiotics and love, he has a good chance for recovery and eventual release back into the wild.

Late nights and long waits don't matter to wildlife carers.

Waiting to see the vets at North Shore Veterinary Hospital Pty Ltd who are so generous with their time and resources.

Tonight I am having a Blue Tounge Skink and an Eastern Water Dragon being seen for treatment - both have been attacked by domestic pets.

Cat and dog attacks are one of the main reasons that lizards and other reptiles come into care.

Welcome to my 'Rehab Clinic' for reptiles!

Here is where I house any snakes, lizards, or turtles that are needing a bit of TLC before they can be released. Injured reptiles can spend anywhere from a few days to a few months in care, depending on the severity of their injuries.

I am a licensed wildlife carer with Sydney Metropolitan Wildlife Services. It is illegal to remove any protected animal from the wild in NSW.
