6 and a half years ago a quiet and charming young Cert 3 qualified educator accepted a casual shift at Mi Kids. Instantly we could tell that she was an instinctive educator, with a lovely calm and caring demeanor.
Since then Rachana has become a beloved and integral part of the team, progressing from a causal support educator, to full time educator to Room Leader of our Nursery.
Whilst working full time she has continued her study, obtaining her Diploma and yesterday she Graduated as an ECT!
Congratulations Rachana we are so lucky to have you and so proud of all your achievements to date! Looking forward to seeing you soar to new heights!

Growing Remembrance Through Relationships 🌿
At Mi Kids, we honoured ANZAC Day through the lens of relationships—remembering the deep connections between people, community, and country.
Across all rooms, from Nursery to Senior Preschool, children engaged with the story Anzac Ted by Belinda Landsberry, helping to gently introduce ideas of bravery, care, and remembrance. In our Senior Preschool, this understanding came to life through rich conversations, curiosity in nature, and collaborative experiences.
Using native coastal rosemary from our garden, planted by Bush to Bowl, the children created poppy and rosemary bouquets—connecting symbol, story, and place. Through this, they explored not only history, but the importance of caring for one another and honouring those who came before us.
In these shared moments, we saw relationships in action—children listening, creating, reflecting, and belonging together. 🌿

At Mi Kids, we believe behaviour is communication and every child deserves to feel safe, understood, and included.
Following our recent professional learning with Care Connect and insights from Melissa Traversa, our team has been engaging in deep critical reflection on how we best support children who may feel overwhelmed or dysregulated.
One key takeaway: regulate first, educate second.
This week, we are exploring “heavy work” strategies – using activities like pushing, pulling, lifting, and our new weighted ball experiences to support children’s nervous systems to feel calm, organised, and ready to learn.
✨ Simple ways families can support at home:
• Carry groceries or a backpack
• Push a laundry basket or help with chores
• Jump, climb, or do wall push-ups
• Drink thick smoothies through a straw
• Create calm, predictable routines
These small, purposeful movements can make a big difference in helping children regulate their bodies and emotions.
We are also so grateful to work alongside visiting therapists who share their knowledge and help strengthen our practice every day.
Together, we continue building a community where every child belongs, is supported, and can thrive 💛

🌿 Building Meaningful Connections Across Generations – Term 1
At Mi Kids, creating meaningful relationships extends beyond our centre — and our last few weeks of Term 1 evolved around reconnecting, with our ARCARE friends have been a beautiful reminder of the power of community.
Our 2026 Senior Preschool children embraced this experience with open hearts, forming new connections with the residents through shared conversations, gentle interactions, and moments of genuine joy.
In celebration of Harmony Day, we explored and acknowledged our diverse cultural backgrounds by creating self-portraits and taking photos with our new friends. These moments were so meaningful that the ARCARE residents chose to keep the children’s portraits — a special reflection of the connection that had already begun to form.
This week, our visit was filled with excitement as the children enjoyed an Easter egg hunt and a special visit from the Easter Bunny. From the bus journey to the shared celebrations, the children’s enthusiasm was infectious. It was heartwarming to see how quickly connections were formed, with both children and residents supporting, guiding, and encouraging each other’s participation.
These experiences are more than just visits — they are laying the foundations for relationships to grow, flourish, and become truly meaningful over time.
When children engage in intergenerational experiences, they develop empathy, confidence, and a deeper sense of belonging within their community.
This is the essence of Mi Kids.
Creating connections, sharing joy, and nurturing relationships that matter

🌿 Relationships at the Heart of Mi Kids – Term 1 Reflection
At Mi Kids, our 2026 focus is on creating meaningful relationships — and Term 1 has been a beautiful reflection of what this truly looks like in practice.
We have intentionally strengthened our partnerships with families by introducing our new Wellbeing Educator Role, led by Charmaine Moss. Charmaine has been available to support families with guidance, connection, and access to local wellbeing services through our Family Information Table at the entrance — creating a space where support is visible, accessible, and valued.
Our commitment to supporting the whole child extends beyond the classroom. Melissa Cooper (Mi Kids Owner/ Director) has continued the work of Mel Traversa (former Mi Kids Inclusion Support Educator) by achieving accreditation in the Triple P Positive Parenting Program, ensuring Mi Kids can continue offering families practical, evidence-based strategies to navigate age-appropriate behaviours. This approach strengthens a shared understanding between educators and families — supporting children to experience consistency, security, and connection across both home and learning environments.
This term, we also welcomed families into the Triple P- Resilience Parent Workshop, tailored specifically to the needs of our Mi Kids community — a reflection of how our program is shaped by the voices, experiences, and aspirations of our families.
We concluded the term with Parent–Teacher Interviews and baseline reports, where meaningful conversations took place — not just sharing information, but building genuine partnerships to support each child’s growth and development.
This is what meaningful relationships look like.
This is what exceeding practice feels like.
When families and educators work together, children thrive. They feel safe, understood, and deeply connected.
At Mi Kids, we live and breathe our philosophy:
“It takes a village to raise a child.”

At Mi Kids, our 2026 focus is on one powerful word: Relationships 💛
We began the year with our annual Smoking Ceremony led by Clarence from Bush to Bowl — a sacred moment of cleansing and new beginnings. Together, we reflected on our relationship with Mother Earth and the responsibility we hold to protect, respect and model this connection for the next generation.
Bush to Bowl has now returned for weekly visits, and our children are beginning to create their own Seasonal Calendar — learning to read the seasons through an Aboriginal perspective by observing what the climate, plants and animals are doing.
This year, our Wetlands Walks will go deeper than nature play. We will slow down, notice, question and truly connect to the land around us.
Because relationships are not only about people — they are about our connection to Country, community and the future we are shaping together 🌿
