MASTER of FILM & SCREEN ARTS Showcase & Awards Night | Friday 26 June 2026

Join filmmakers, family, cast, crew and friends for an evening celebrating the graduating cohort of the Master of Film & Screen Arts program.

The evening will feature a curated program of short films spanning narrative, experimental and documentary practices, showcasing the breadth of emerging screen-based work produced across the degree.

Four awards will be decided on by a distinguished jury of screen arts academics and industry practitioners, including Professor Julie Rrap (SCA Co-Director), Pao-chen Tang (Lecturer in Film Studies), Marcelle Lunam (award-winning Director), and Fiona Hill (Lecturer at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music).

This showcase is generously supported by Sony, DigiDirect and Turramurra Music. Guests at the Old Geology Lecture Theatre will also have the chance to win one of four door prizes provided courtesy of Turramurra Music!

Congratulations to SCA alumna Lily Thomas-McKnight on being selected for the 35th edition of Hatched: National Graduate Show 2026 at PICA!

Bringing together 21 artists from 20 art schools across Australia, Hatched is one of the country’s most significant platforms for emerging contemporary artists.

We are delighted to see Lily’s work featured alongside this national cohort. Swipe through for pics of Lily and her work at SCA’s annual graduate exhibition New Contemporaries.

‘Giiny (Healing)’ is a reflection of the artist’s cultural upbringing as a Wiradjuri and Gomeroi woman. ‘Giiny’ addresses the importance of being able to access cultural knowledge and practice throughout childhood in order to heal, especially through the use of passing knowledge to younger generations.

In dialogue with the artist’s exhibited video work ‘You Can’t See Speed’ (2025), the performance considered how sound penetrates spaces.

Tomorrow, join us for a performance by exhibiting artist Tina Stefanou from 6pm. Continuing her exploration of voice as an intermedial field and means in contemporary art, Stefanou will perform a live vocal action extending voice into architectural, material, and emotional terrains.

SCA is proud to support the VADEA 2026 program, which foregrounds teacher agency, interdisciplinary learning, and the relationship between classroom practice and broader art worlds — creating space for critical dialogue across all stages of visual arts education.

Held at Liverpool Powerhouse, the conference brings together educators, artists and researchers to consider the future of visual arts education through curriculum reform, contemporary practice and new pedagogical approaches.

Don’t miss SCA’s Miguel Valenzuela joining the program, alongside SCA alumna Morgan Hogg as a keynote speaker.

🌌🌌SCA staff member and glass artist Cobi Cockburn presents ‘Primary Lines’, a solo exhibition at Dominik Mersch Gallery, on view now until 6 June. 🌌🌌
‘Primary Lines’ explores light as material, working with two elemental forces, light and line. Shaped through encounter, the works unfold as perceptual fields rather than fixed objects.

2026 SCA Alumni Fauvette Loureiro Memorial Scholarship | Deadline Extended: 5pm, Monday 25 May
 
The SCA Alumni Fauvette Loureiro Memorial Scholarship is open now to all Sydney College of the Arts alumni across two categories: a $15,000 Emerging Scholarship and a $30,000 Mid-career/Established Scholarship.
 
This year’s judging panel includes Judy Watson, Rachel Kent & Professor Julie Rrap.

Artist Judy Watson is a Waanyi descendant of northwest Queensland. Her ancestry and personal experiences have greatly influenced her artistic practice, which spans a variety of media including painting, printmaking, video, sculpture and installation. She explores themes of migration, survival and recovery, seeking to bring awareness and understanding to these issues. Her work is a powerful means of truth telling and a form of cultural preservation. 
 
Rachel Kent has served as CEO of Bundanon since September 2021. Rachel is an experienced arts leader, art historian and head curator with extensive experience working with international museums and cultural institutions. Prior to her appointment at Bundanon, Rachel was the Chief Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Australia and has presented exhibitions in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the USA, and Canada, including major solo presentations by Do Ho Suh, Doug Aitken, Cornelia Parker, Yoko Ono and Grayson Perry.
 
Professor Julie Rrap has been a major figure in Australian contemporary art for over 40 years. Since the mid-1970s, she has worked with photography, painting, sculpture, performance and video in an ongoing project concerned with representations of the body. Rrap’s works are held in every major public collection in Australia as well as in many corporate and private collections in Australia and overseas.

✨ Revisiting last month’s workshop and lecture with 2026 Gilbert Fellow Bonita Ely. ✨

Ely invited participants to explore the meanings projected onto keepsakes. Students used their own cherished objects as the starting point for movement-based individual and collaborative performative exercises.

The workshop examined how gesture, posture, proximity, and handling revealed relationships between people and things, and how meaning shifts as bodies moved across different contexts.
