We had an exciting opportunity to provide two educational proactive sessions with the Office of the Health Ombudsman (OHO) in Queensland. We covered everything from programme delivery and recertification requirements to planned vs
unplanned physical intervention, Maybo's SAFER™, SEAL™ and Risk Reduction Approach, roles during restrictive interventions, HOT debriefs, and learning from incidents.
There were some valuable discussions around patient-centred planning, operational realities, and how incident reporting helps strengthen future risk assessments and safer practice. We learned from each other and gained a shared understanding.
Thanks to everyone who contributed their experience, questions, and insights throughout the sessions!

At Maybo, we teach that de-escalation starts before a single word is spoken.
Body language, gestures, facial expressions, and how we approach someone all influence how they feel and respond. That's why Open PALMS is one of our key models, helping staff communicate safety and respect through their non-verbal behaviour.
There's science behind this too. As Christian Keysers explores in The Empathic Brain, emotions are contagious. People often mirror the emotional states of those around them, meaning calm, confident staff can have a powerful influence on an interaction.
If your staff regularly have difficult conversations or support people in distress, get in touch to find out how Maybo training can help them create more positive outcomes.
