Provocations are deliberate and thoughtful decisions made by an educator to extend on ideas of the children. The set up is usually through open ended materials so as to enable the children to take the lead and extend the ideas where they want.
A simple way of explaining this is just as the word describes -Provocations Provoke!
Here we have a numeracy set up as we have some children showing a great interest in numbers and addition. This allows the children to use numbers and explore their interest in the way they want. Children learn through play, all that is needed is an environment to nurture their interests.

Family Daycare -Individualised learning - interests based -
sustainability - community engagement
Learning doesn't need to happen at a desk!
The environment, quality resources, being creative with lesson plans combined with using the interests of the children are the best tools to promote development.
Children should be invited to play through the environment around them and this in turn creates meaningful learning opportunities.
We used our outdoor environment and as many natural components as possible to help create a sense of calmness and enquiry, creating an inviting area to play and learn and make it as sustainable as possible by using pasta, rice and oats that were at their used by dates and would of otherwise be discarded/composted.
We combined this with a quality and attractive resource called wipe and write counting treasure chests created by Amellia from Steady hands Education, a local Creative Mum within our community. The best part about this activity is how reusuable the wipe and write chests are, they can be used for all ages, by adding dots to help children that dont recognise numeral to count, math equations can be written on them to challenge Primary children, and a bonus the jewels are so eye catching it made this outdoor activity really inviting for all our children as the jewels caughts the sunlight. 🌞

Here, i have combined the sensory and numeracy interests of our children in a hands on exploratory numeracy activity. While working on her fine motor skills by co-ordinating and controlling the bamboo utensils, Lucy is able to excitedly find the jewels which are hidden in the sensory tray, she then transfers the jewels to the numbered treasure boxes. She is learning to recognise numbers in their numeral form, along with counting in sequences. Lucy is also starting to understand basic maths by working out how many more she needs to get the desired number of jewels.

Our final use for our flowers we have had in our service for over 2 weeks, they have lasted through our mini restaurant, being handled and smelt, being admired and drawn and lastly used as a tool to create impressions. Teaching Children that you can use items in many different ways, creating opportunities for reusing, appreciating what we have, and using natural resources in place of processed resources.

Following our 2 themes at the moment: Indigenous culture, and reduce, reuse, recycle.
From an Aboriginal artwork tea towel to a curtain to create a culturally safe play space that offers an element of surprise by challenging the sense of vison. Aimed to encourage children to accept differences, respect each other, be proud of who they are and acknowledge our Indigenous community.
And a simple yet effective recycling friendly construction area helping children recognise the importance of recycling by reusing items before binning them. Creating opportunities to think outside of the box, problem solve, be creative and use resources that are readily available.
Two very cost friendly, simple and sustainable activities and endless learning opportunities.

The time has come to send our very healthy little bean seedlings into the community.
The children have grown, nutured and watched these seedlings grow and in return would like to know a little bit about the people in our community.
We are looking for 10 people who would like to participate in our community exchange project to take a seedling and continue to nuture it and enjoy the beans as they produce, in return we would like to know a little bit about you and your culture.
Please PM me if you would participate, i can drop beans off locally and any information about you and your culture can be inboxed to me and i will share the information with the children.
By doing this we are creating a culturally safe environment, expanding our knowledge of the community that surrounds us and learning about different languages, foods, events etc, creating many pathways to incorporate diversity and cultural exposure to the children
We look forward to learning about our community and seeing our beans go off to their new homes for people to enjoy.

Our under 2's set up today 😀 Creating a safe and secure but fun environment is my number 1 priority. The Children are encouraged and supported to explore the world as they see it, learning from spontaneous and intentional experiences using patterns, textures, role play, manipulation and communication
