Happy Mother’s Day to all our wonderful mothers

At Little Dolphins Long Day Care, we understand that true school readiness goes far beyond learning letters and numbers. It begins with emotional regulation—the foundation that allows children to feel secure, confident, and ready to learn.

Research shows that emotional regulation plays a critical role in a child’s ability to adapt to the structure and expectations of school, influencing both social and academic success.

That’s why our approach focuses on nurturing the whole child.

How we support emotional regulation and school readiness:

We create a calm, predictable environment where children feel safe and supported. Through consistent routines, children learn what to expect, helping them build confidence and reduce anxiety when transitioning to kindergarten.

Our educators actively guide children in recognising and expressing their emotions. Whether it’s frustration, excitement, or worry, we help children put words to their feelings and respond in healthy, constructive ways.

Through play-based learning and social interaction, children develop essential skills such as:

* Taking turns and sharing
* Problem-solving with peers
* Managing big emotions
* Building resilience when things don’t go to plan

These everyday experiences are powerful. Children who develop strong self-regulation are better able to focus, follow instructions, and engage positively in the classroom environment.

We also encourage independence—supporting children to manage their belongings, make choices, and build a sense of responsibility. This fosters confidence and a smoother transition into the more structured setting of school.

Our goal is simple:
To ensure every child leaves Little Dolphins not just “ready for school,” but equipped with the emotional tools to thrive in life.

Watching little minds at work 🧠✨

Activities like this aren’t just fun—they’re building focus, problem-solving skills, creativity, and fine motor development all at once. As children explore shapes, patterns, and design, they’re also learning patience, confidence, and how to work independently and alongside others.

Learning through play is where the magic happens 💛

🌿 Emotional Regulation Starts With Us

As early childhood educators, our role goes far beyond teaching letters and numbers.
Before children can learn, they need to feel safe.

Emotional regulation is a skill that develops through connection. When a child feels overwhelmed, frustrated, or upset, they are not being “difficult” — they are learning.

At Little Dolphins, we:

💛 Get down to their level and connect before correcting
💛 Model calm, steady responses
💛 Teach breathing and simple calming strategies
💛 Validate feelings while guiding safe behaviour
💛 Create predictable routines that build security

Every emotional moment is an opportunity to teach resilience, empathy, and self-awareness.

When children feel supported through big emotions, they begin to build the confidence to manage them independently — and that foundation lasts a lifetime.
