BURT: “I THOUGHT AUSTRALIA WAS AGGRESSIVE!”

Kiwi Tag125 racer Kiahn Burt has a fresh appreciation for the level of competition in Australia after a whirlwind visit to Macau for the IAME Asia Senior X30 championship.

“I thought Australia was aggressive, but there’s a lot of desperate guys there. And that’s why I love the AKC. You can race wheel to wheel here with guys like Harry, Jaiden, Hugo, Amos and Dallas and they respect you without taking you out. It makes you a better racer when you learn to race clean,” he said.

“I’m just happy to run up the front with these guys and grateful to JDP Group for giving me the package to be able to be up there.”

The three-time NZ champ is quick to acknowledge his engine builder as a major player in his current position in the Penrite Australian Kart Championship.

“Troy Farley produces great engines and helps so many people. He’s getting the most out of a Rotax of anyone,” he admits, while hinting that he also would love to emulate Farley’s contribution to the sport and build kart engines for a living.

Round three at Townsville has presented a lot of question marks for the Palmerston North racer, who has never been to Townsville, let alone the Kart track.

“I watched a lap of Townsville on a TikTok once,” he laughs, “but it will definitely even the field out. I reckon most of the field wouldn’t even know which engines they’ll be using, so it’s going to be very interesting!”

Burt currently sits 20 points behind TaG125 championship leader Harrison Hoey and 29 points in front of Tim Colombrita.

7+ will once again host the live coverage of the championship on Saturday July 4 from 12:30pm and 11:30am on the Sunday. Sun City Raceway is 20 minutes west of Townsville on Shaw Road and offers free entry for spectators along with excellent amenities, and refreshments available for purchase.
