As winter begins in Australia, it is a good reminder that our environment affects wellbeing more than we realise.

Research suggests that winter may influence wellbeing through factors such as reduced sunlight exposure, prolonged melatonin secretion, and seasonal changes in the body's immune response. These changes may affect energy levels, sleep, stress regulation, and overall mood.

Because our nervous system constantly responds to the conditions around us, the way we respond to seasonal changes through our routines and behaviours can also influence wellbeing.

Small habits that support regulation and recovery can be particularly helpful:
- Getting outside during daylight
- Staying physically active
- Maintaining social connection
- Creating moments of calm

Although we cannot control the seasons, we can decide how we respond to them in ways that support our mental and physical wellbeing.

There can be a belief that if we stop pushing ourselves so harshly, we will become complacent, unsuccessful, or fall behind.

But when self-worth becomes too dependent on achievement, approval, or getting everything “right,” it can become difficult to feel genuinely content, even when things are going well.

This is where self-acceptance becomes important.

Self-acceptance does not mean avoiding responsibility or prFor many people, being hard on themselves has become normal and even desirable.

Self-criticism, perfectionism, and constant comparison are often mistaken for motivation or personal growth.

etending everything about ourselves is positive. It involves recognising both our strengths and our limitations without constantly judging ourselves.

The way we relate to ourselves influences how we experience challenges, relationships and even success itself.

Developing a balanced and unconditional relationship with ourselves is an important part of psychological wellbeing.

Constant demands and digital noise can easily cause us to lose our sense of grounding. When the mind disconnects from the present, focus and emotional balance quietly fade.

Noticing that this is happening is the first step; taking action is the next. That is why it is important to know how to reconnect, to restore clarity, calm, and presence in daily life.

At EQness, we use evidence-based anchoring techniques to help individuals and teams strengthen awareness and emotional balance.

Being attuned to kindness, whether noticing it, offering it, or receiving it, nurtures not only others but also our own wellbeing.

Neuroscience shows that even small acts of kindness activate the brain’s soothing system, releasing oxytocin and helping us feel more connected and balanced.
On World Kindness Day, let kindness guide you, whether you give it, receive it, or simply allow it in.

Every act of kindness matters, including the ones you offer to yourself.

Today is International Stress Awareness Day!
Stress is a natural part of being human, but awareness changes everything. How we respond makes all the difference.

Awareness begins with a pause. Take a moment to stop, breathe, and turn your attention inward. What sensations arise within you? What is your body asking for right now?

Maybe it needs a deep breath, a gentle stretch, or a moment of stillness.

When practiced regularly, these pauses break the cycle of automatic reactions that feed stress and help the brain build new pathways that support wellbeing.

A research published in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience shows that even one 10-minute mindfulness session can produce measurable improvements in attention.

This early response highlights the brain’s capacity to adapt, a reminder that mindfulness works from the very first step. But real transformation doesn’t come from isolated moments. It’s built through commitment and consistency, as each session strengthens the pathways that support focus, balance, and resilience over time.

Start your first 10-minute session with EQness today and experience how mindful change begins with one moment of awareness.
