EAL/D (English as Another Language or Dialect) – New Arrivals
This term, our New Arrival students have been further developing essential English skills through Survival Language lessons. Students have participated in engaging, practical and picture-supported activities based on everyday topics, including school routines, feelings, family, animal, clothing, time, food, transport, road safety, plants and the community.
They have learnt useful vocabulary and simple sentence structures to help them ask and answer questions, express their needs and feelings, follow instructions and communicate with teachers and classmates. Through speaking, listening, reading, writing, role-play and matching activities, students have increased their confidence and improved their ability to participate in classroom learning. These lessons have also supported students in understanding their new school environment, building friendships and developing a stronger sense of safety, independence and belonging.

🌟 Passion Projects in 2D 🌟
Students in 2D chose a topic they were passionate about, researched it, interviewed family members, created and proudly presented them to their classmates. The smiles on their faces as they shared what they love were priceless.
We even had some live demonstrations! From sharing new skills to teaching others about their interests, our students showed us that learning can be exciting, personal and full of curiosity.

KB has shown great enthusiasm toward school this Term!
In mathematics, we explored the concept of length in our measurement unit through a hands-on activity. Students used pipe cleaners to measure the length of the curved lines and compared their results, building their understanding of measurement in a fun and practical way.
In celebration of Book Week, KB dressed up as their favourite book characters, creating a wonderful atmosphere of excitement and enthusiasm in our classroom as we shared stories and celebrated our love of reading together.
Finally, in preparation for our school production, KB has been putting lots of effort into practising our dance! We have been learning the moves, building confidence and having lots of fun along the way. KB can’t wait to share their performance with their families and showcase everything they have been practising!

What a fantastic K-2 Athletics Carnival we had yesterday on Area C!
Our little athletes brought so much energy to the running races and game tabloids, giving it their all and having a ball along the way. It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers out supporting the kids and cheering them on.
A huge thank you to our amazing Kindergarten teachers for organising such a fun and memorable day. The smiles said it all!

We are incredibly grateful for the wonderful support of our P&C Colour Run fundraiser this term. It was fantastic to see our students, families and staff coming together to enjoy such a fun and colourful event last Friday!

Thanks to your generosity, two new water stations will be installed for Term 4, a fantastic addition that our students and community will enjoy for years to come. 💦

A special thank you to all our HSPS families, staff and wider community who participated, donated, volunteered and supported the fundraiser. Your generosity and enthusiasm made the event a huge success. Thank you for helping make it all possible! 🌈

In Term 3, 1M learned about informative texts. We explored the texts ‘Stay For Dinner’ and ‘Lunch at 10 Pomegranate Street.’ Both books made us so hungry as the author spoke about foods from many different countries around the world. We looked at recipes and discovered that a recipe is a type of text that informs us how to make something. We decided to write our own recipe on how to make a cheese pizza. Students planned their writing by thinking of a starting verb and a preposition phrase for each step. They wrote their recipe using a recipe layout remembering to include their verbs and preposition phrases from their plan. Of course we had to make sure that we tested out our recipes by making the cheese pizza. 1M had fun spreading the sauce on the base and sprinkling the cheese on the sauce. Ms Mastroieni carefully cooked the pizzas in an oven. The best part was eating the delicious pizza!! Lots of fun and lots of learning happening in 1M!!
