The La Perouse Aboriginal Community Cultural Fishing Group wants to give a big thank you to our local Federal MP, , for standing strong with us and issuing this statement against racism.

As a group that gathers regularly out on country at Gamay (Botany Bay) to keep our traditional cultural fishing practices and knowledge alive, we know how vital it is to feel safe, respected, and supported.

Our fishing crew work hard hauling for mullet during the peak of the mullet season to make sure our elders and community get a fresh feed.

This cultural practice brings us together in harmony, and seeing Matt publicly back our mob during a time of national grief means a lot to all of us.

Law enforcement are homing in on these racists. There is no room in our communities for racial slurs and hate speech towards any race or colour.

We greatly appreciate you calling out this toxic behavior, Matt, and helping protect our community's enduring cultural strength. 🤝🏽🖤💛❤️

Photos from La Perouse Aboriginal Community Cultural Fishing Group's post 05/05/2026

As the end of the 2026 mullet season is approaching, we’ve been reflecting on the season we've had with some photos of our mullet hauling. 🌊🐟

Looking back at these photos—including this amazing shot of the rainbow over the boat—you see more than just a catch; you see the strength of our community and the way we show up for one another. Whether it’s the massive crowd on the sand or our young ones getting their hands salty and learning the ropes, it’s all about connection to country, culture, tradition, and community. 🖤💛❤️

We want to acknowledge the hard work our fishing crew put in for every single haul. A massive thanks goes to:
Robert C.
Rodney E.
Michael C.
Michael W.
Barry C.
and Peter C.

Thank you for volunteering your time, you fullas, turning up in rain, hail, or shine to make sure the mob got a feed. ✊🏽 We also thank and appreciate all those who came along and pitched in to help pull the net.

This year, Sea Country provided in abundance, and we’re proud to have shared that bounty far and wide. This included sending a feed up north to mob in Port Stephens and transporting a few boxes of mullet to mob down the South Coast to Nowra and Wreck Bay. 🚐💨

Lastly, we would like to thank the Fisheries Department for working with the La Perouse Aboriginal Community and issuing our Cultural Fishing Permit, which allows us to continue our traditional practices on Country.

From the ocean, to the trailer, to the plate—this is our way of life. 🍽️🔥

We’re finishing this season with full boats and even fuller hearts, knowing our traditions remain unbroken and our culture is being carried forward by the next generation.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal Land. 🌊🏁

We scored a nice little haul this morning we packed some in a couple of boxes and they on the way down to the Wrecky mob. Compliments from our Lapa fishing crew. Fresh mullet…enjoy the feed 🐟🐟👌🏽

Any of our Lapa mob looking for mullet there is some on ice in the boat at the Gamay Rangers compound at Yarra House, first in best dressed 😬

A huge thanks to Troy Stewart for transporting the mullet down Wreck 👍🏽👍🏽

Mullet have been spotted at Yarra Beach, it’s a bit windy but we are getting the boat and net ready. Hopefully we get a haul in this morning.

Eden / Bittangabee camp begins tomorrow.

Just want to let everyone know some of us meeting up with the Eden Rangers tomorrow at Jigamy to chat about stuff before heading out to camp. 9am at the Eden LALC office. A couple of NPWS Field Officers will be coming along as well.

Also we have a lad coming along who works in Mental Health if anyone wants to chat to him.

Camp runs from 7th - 16th November so feel free to pop in any of those days.

It’s been a very tough year for the Lapa and South Coast Mob so it would be good to get a few down there to just catch our breath a bit .
