In celebration of International Women's Day ,The Drop Bears are providing a word from our amazing skipper, Rachel!
"Being the captain of an almost all boys robotics team can seem a bit intimidating at first and, it was. It took awhile for me to understand that there wasn't a difference between me and them and to establish that the role I have isn’t due to my gender but my management and organisational skills. The team has been great at accepting me as no different from anyone else and I love that they have always been so welcoming. Working alongside the guys have allowed me to extend my communication skills and be comfortable working in an environment that I am seen as ’outnumbered’ in.
Although women have made great progress, I still think there’s a fair way to go. Participating in STEM activities throughout the past few years has shown me that the ratio of women to men is still very unfavourable, particularly within this field.
I’m currently a year 12 student at a co-ed school and the only girl that is in the physics, chemistry or design and technology courses for HSC. I encourage all females to not be afraid of gender roles and to get out there and challenge themselves!"

Thank you Rachel for that truly inspiring message! At The Drop Bears, we wholeheartedly advocate for more women entering into the field of STEM and we hope that girls around the world can be empowered to do so! ❤️
