nd other. The Handball Academy has come to fruition by one of Australian Handball’s most successful coaches and former playmaker, Philipp Enders. With his vast experience, he structures development programs, which through regular training will assist young people to learn. Particular focus is placed on Junior Development. Key for the Academy is the development of juniors especially during the early stages of their playing career which is from utmost importance and to keep them connected to the sport through offering continuous training opportunities and competition. Handball is one of Europe’s biggest junior sports but due to the lack of affordable, accessible and quality training programs here in Australia, many talented young players have only limited (if any) exposure to the sport and therefore they move away from handball in their teenage years. Therefore our goals for the academy is to:
• To provide an Academy, Programs, Clinics that is of high quality standard
• To cater for all school aged players
• To work with players to develop their skills at a rate they are comfortable with
• To grow the sport of European Handball in Australia
• To teach skills while having fun
Handball has an educational impact. Changes can be seen in motor skills development and performance and educational potential. This shows the positive relationship between being involved in physical activities and psychosocial development. Sport and physical education is fundamental to the early development of children and youth and the skills learned during play, physical education and sport contribute to the holistic development of young people. Through participation in sport and physical education, young people learn about the importance of key values such as:
- honesty,
- teamwork,
- fair play,
- respect for themselves and others, and
- adherence to rules. It also provides a forum for young people to learn how to deal with competition and how to cope with both winning and losing. These learning aspects highlight the impact of physical education and sport on a child’s social and moral development in addition to physical skills and abilities. In terms of physical and health aspects of child and youth development, there is an overwhelming amount of evidence that focuses on the (mostly positive) effects of sport and exercise on physical health, growth and development.
