You're invited speak at an upcoming panel event focused on equity and inclusion at University of Sydney on Thursday 2 May, 5-7pm to share some of your experiences and "tips and tricks" for navigating University and the job market. Students from ECOP, ECON, PIR and Social Sciences are invited, and ECOPSOC will be there in support.

Join ECOP SOC at the Gleebooks book launch for 'Climate Finance', supporting our Head of Faculty Gareth Bryant.

Co-authors Gareth Bryant and Sophie Webber (University of Sydney) will be joined by Adrienne Buller (author of The Value of a Whale: On the Illusions of Green Capitalism), Jenny Leong (Greens MP for Newtown) and Damien Cahill (political economist and General Secretary of the NTEU), to launch the book.

Join economist and former Greek Finance Minister, Yanis Varoufakis for a special talk at the University of Sydney. Yanis will discuss his new book, Technofeudalism: What Killed Capitalism, and its implications for Australia as the world enters a ‘New Cold War’ of geopolitical tensions between the United States and China.

Varoufakis argues that big tech has replaced capitalism’s twin pillars—markets and profit—with its platforms and rents. With every click and scroll, we labor like serfs to increase its power. This is Technofeudalism: the new power that is reshaping our lives and the world, and the greatest current threat to the liberal individual, to our efforts to avert climate catastrophe—and to democracy itself.

Drawing on stories from Greek myth and pop culture, from Homer to Mad Men, Varoufakis will explain this revolutionary transformation: how it enslaves our minds, how it rewrites the rules of global power, and, ultimately, what it will take overthrow it.
