Belrose Kindergarten is a privately owned and family run centre offering childcare for children aged 0-6 years. The Centre is licensed by the NSW Department of Community Services to care for 24 children daily. We believe childhood is a unique and valuable stage of life that is important to the whole family. Mad About Science! 🧪
What a fun time we had this morning whilst enjoying our incursion with Mad About Science!

We were introduced to Miss A who started off by showing us some amazing experiments (only to be done by grown ups)! She made a tea bag fly by emptying the tea leaves out and opening up the bag then lighting it on fire. The hot air trapped in the bag made it rise whilst on fire then it turned into ash. She also did some funny experiments with different balloons making them fly all over the classroom. Miss A also showed us some clever tricks with water beads.

The children were then invited to explore a variety of interactive science tables including:-

⭐️ Optical illusions with funny glasses, various telescopes, and coloured lenses.

⭐️ Gravity and Motion with a selection of gyroscopes, spinning tops, flying toys, balancing birds and car ramps.

⭐️ Magnetic Forces with a variety of magnets and magnetic toys to explore.

⭐️ Living Things with a selection of looking glasses and microscopes and different bugs and insects to look at.

⭐️ Chemical Reaction table where children were assisted to make coloured snow with water and a chemical called super absorbent polymer.

⭐️ Electricity where Miss A helped the children to make a spinning top fly by creating electricity with batteries.

We all regrouped for the big finale where Miss A made some colourful volcanoes using vinegar and baking soda as well as some other colour changing chemicals.

The children had so much fun, were throughly engaged throughout the experience and enjoyed learning lots of new interesting facts about Science!

AfroBeats - African Drumming and Dance came to Belrose Kindergarten with contagious energy and enthusiasm. The children had a drum each to use as they followed instructions to stop or carryon. The children were invited to choose speed and volume and surprisingly many chose slow and quiet…not for long though as they were encouraged to drum along as a group which was wild! A great interactive and educational music and movement incursion!

An interesting read.

Many Early Childhood educators, parents and carers will start to think about children starting school in September. Keen to ensure that children are ‘school ready.

But what does school readiness really mean? 🤔

There is a societal misconception that children need to write their names before starting big school. It’s OK we recognise it can be an anxious time and many parents feel the pressure to get children ahead quicker, faster, sooner. We get it ! 🥰

But let us help take the pressure off.
Let us debunk the misconceptions and share the science behind it all
Child development 🙌🏼❤️

Did you know ? School readiness isn't about a child being able to copy or trace their name.📝

Children need to develop gross and fine motor skills first. They need to develop core strength, shoulder stability, dexterity and coordination. Crossing the midline, hand eye coordination and pivotal joint development.

Their little hands are not physically ready to engage in formal handwriting, copying letters or tracing over dotted lines. Let’s take the pressure off and understand what skills children will really need when they start school.

This week, we are excited to release Magazine 3 of our School readiness series. This week we are focusing on FINE MOTOR skills.

Sharing further insight into child development. We explore the stages of pencil grip and delve into the physical aspects of children's hands.

Want to learn WHY we shouldn’t push formal handwriting too early and discover HOW to support children instead as they transition to school instead.🙌🏼

‘Rooftop Bees’ came to our kindy to teach us all about bees. The children participated in bee yoga, saw examples of the lifecycle and learnt about the bee anatomy. It was a great hands on experience which we all loved! We even got to take home our very own jar of honey.

Celebrating Lunar New Year at Belrose Kindergarten involved chopping carrots and spring onions before adding them to the bowl filled with flavoursome meat. We learnt how to roll the dough and add the fillings before one of our Kindy Grandfathers cooked them up for us to eat - they were delicious!
