“Women can do anything they put their minds to.”

At Salaam Institute, we create spaces for conversations that help Muslim Australians see what is possible and feel confident stepping forward.

During No More Playing Small: Owning Your Power as a Muslim in Australia, Tina Ayyad MP shared her journey from the daughter of a migrant mother to becoming Deputy Mayor in her first year on council.

Her story was a powerful reminder that leadership is not reserved for someone else. When we own our experiences, use our voices and have the courage to step forward, we can create meaningful change.

This is what Salaam Institute is about: bringing our community together to learn from honest stories, build meaningful connections and inspire the next generation of leaders.

What started as an idea on a university campus has grown into the Salaam Institute, the Salaam Foundation, and a nationally trusted Salaam Australia superannuation and finance offering.

Last Friday, we had the privilege of bringing our community together with Usman Khawaja for a conversation that went far beyond cricket.

Usman spoke openly about faith, identity, resilience and the choices that have shaped who he is: reminding our young people that they don’t have to leave their values behind to pursue big ambitions.

There were laughs, questions, signed cricket gear and plenty of memorable moments, but it was the conversations that made the evening so special.
