Submissions for the NSW Young Lawyers 2026 Sir Anthony Mason Constitutional Law Essay Competition are closing soon.

The competition invites law students from across Australia to develop advanced legal writing skills while contributing to contemporary constitutional discourse. The winner will receive a $500 cash prize and have their essay published in LSJ Online.

In 2026, the competition will be held in memory of Sir Anthony Mason AC KBE CBE QC, former Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia, whose contribution to Australian constitutional law continues to shape the legal profession.

Registrations are now open for the fourth instalment in The Law Society of NSW Pathways in Law Series.

New for 2026, the series aims to provide law students with greater insight into the various pathways a career in law can offer. Each session will explore a different legal segment and feature a panel of experienced professionals who will share their experience, insight and advice for those considering a similar career path.

Incivility is one of the most widely reported challenges in the legal sector, and one that most solicitors will personally experience or witness during their careers. Navigating incivility on a daily basis and building relationships within a stressful environment can be draining, defeating, and can make work feel unbearable.

Josephine Waugh, Wellbeing Officer at The Law Society of NSW will lead an evidence-informed session exploring the sources of incivility and the impact this hazard has on solicitors, both personally and professionally. Attendees will explore methods of communication that promote and protect healthy workplace relationships and interactions and learn techniques to deal with uncivil behaviour from a range of stakeholders.
