Dear Families,

It is with great sadness that I am letting you know that our CK Santa, who has been attending CK as a special guest for 32 years, sadly passed away last week.

Since opening the business in 1992, Euan/Santa has attended every year to celebrate our CK Christmas events. Donating his time out of the goodness of his heart, Euan refused to accept payment for his contributions, always stating that it was part of his role to share in the Christmas spirit and keep the magic of Christmas alive.

While Santa’s role has changed over the years as we adapted our own practices and procedures, his priority of sparking joy and spreading love never changed. Euan cherished his connection to our centre, and we were fortunate enough to be the only service that he continued to visit over the past 4 years. This includes during the pandemic, when our all family Christmas Concerts changed to be a lunch with just the children and Santa. Our families who attended during this time and last year will understand special this intimate this celebration was for the children.

This loss is especially painful for longstanding members of our community, including parents of currently attending children who also attended CK as children. They have treasured the experience of their children having the same Santa that they had while here. Some members of the community may also be aware that Euan was also Santa at my Mum’s Kindergarten, meaning our connection stems back over 40 years of learning.

At the service we will be creating a special artwork and message from Carlingford Kindergarten to the family, but if you have any messages, memories or condolences please share them with us and we will be sure to pass them forward.

Five weeks ago, Carlingford Kindergarten engaged in our Assessment & Rating process. We were so excited to show off all of the wonderful things we do at our service, and found the updated assessment process with the SAT a positive change from the old system. This week we received our official rating and are proud to share that we have been rated as an exceeding service! 🌟
This is something we have been working towards for many years, and has been a big goal for Mrs Oly for a long time. We would like to thank the entire team for all of their hard work, dedication and passion toward early childhood education, and their commitment to continuous improvement. This has certainly been a team achievement! We would also like to thank our community of families and friends who help us achieve all of the wonderful things we do at CK. This includes all of our suppliers, community connections and business contributors. But most of all we would like to celebrate this wonderful achievement and milestone for our beautiful service 🥳🥰👏

At Carlingford Kindergarten, we pride ourselves on taking on board the children’s interests and home experiences and turning them into new learnings here.

Rex recently told us that he had made pizza at home for Valentine’s Day. Leah was turning 5 and for her special meal at CK, she chose pizza, too, so Mrs Oly got everything together to help the children create some amazing pizzas.

Some of the older children helped prepare this food by following some very simple steps:

1️⃣Roll out the dough.
2️⃣Add tomato sauce to the base.
3️⃣Sprinkle cheese on top.
4️⃣Add toppings – included, capsicum, ham, salami.

Once they were complete, Mrs Oly carefully put them in the oven to cook. While they were cooking, the children sat together to read a story about making pizzas and were able to make comparisons between those in the book and their own experiences in the classroom.

The children saved the best bit until last and ate their creations for afternoon tea!

EYLF Learning Outcomes:
1.3 – Children develop knowledgeable and confident self identities.
3.2 – Children take increasing responsibility for their own health and physical wellbeing.
4.3 – Children transfer and adapt what they have learned from one context to another.

This experience supported transitions from home to the CK community. Birthdays and Valentine’s Day are special occasions within these children’s personal life and they were able to bring them into their kindy day to share with others.

We love taking the children out in our local area, but to do this we need your permission.🚶🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️

Please remember to sign our Routine Excursion Annual Permission Form for 2023 so we can enjoy some planned and spontaneous trips out and about.

Welcome back to another year at Carlingford Kindergarten!
Just a little reminder that all clothes and bags must be labelled with your child’s name. This is especially important during the start of the year when children have new belongings.
This includes,
👕Clothing
👟Shoes
🧦Socks
🥾Gumboots
🧥Jackets & Raincoats
🎒Bags – including wet bags and raincoat bags.

🥳We’re still on holidays but are looking forward to welcoming you back on Tuesday 17th January! 🥳

We are really enjoying the participation from our families as they try to figure out which self-portrait belongs to which child. 😀 The team have been posting the portraits onto OWNA – without the child’s name – to see if they can guess. We also popped them on the wall for everyone to see.

Before our Graduation Ceremony, the Kookaburra’s enjoyed a magnificent afternoon tea prepared by Miss Vanessa.

We were so lucky to be eating our special treat on real China plates and cups that belonged to Nana Oly!

Carlingford Kindergarten is celebrating 3️0 years of education this year 🥳
