Meisner didn’t teach acting for effect.
He taught truth in the moment.
Not “how do I look sad?”
But “what do I need right now?”
What am I fighting for in this moment?

James Gandolfini’s passing was a huge loss to the acting world. Best known as Tony Soprano in The Sopranos, he brought rare depth and humanity to a complex character.
He even walked out of his first audition for the role that would define him. What made his work feel so real was a quiet commitment to truthful, in-the-moment responding, echoing the principles of Sanford Meisner in which he trained for years.
His legacy lives on in the honesty he brought to every performance.

It’s that time of year where we pause and pay our respects to those who gave their lives for our freedom.
This ANZAC Day, we reflect on the stories that remind us of sacrifice, courage, and mateship.
From Kokoda featuring Actors Pulse graduate Luke Ford, to Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan featuring Actors Pulse graduate Aaron Glenane—these films don’t just depict war, they honour the human cost behind it.
Stories that bring us closer to those who served in the Kokoda Track campaign and the Battle of Long Tan.
Lest we forget.
Bryan Cranston on auditions: it’s not about booking the job.
It’s about the other person. Trust your preparation. Stay present.
The moment you chase the result, you lose the work.

When actors are flying in from Cairns to train… you know something’s building.
Big respect to Maggie and her students for showing up ready to work.
Alan Rickman believed the most important skill an actor can develop is listening. Not waiting to speak, not planning the next line, but truely hearing the person in front of you.
When you listen with that level of attention, your responses stop feeling rehearsed and start feeling real. The scene comes alive.
“Meisner is the courage to stop controlling the moment and let the other person provoke you into truth, until nothing is planned, and everything is real.”
When Jack Nicholson talks about “the reality of doing,” he’s pointing to a core truth about acting: real behavior on stage or screen must come from actually doing something, not pretending to do something. It’s that simple. Not always easy, but simple.
