Today we celebrated Māori Language Day by introducing the children to the beautiful sounds and words of the Māori. Through songs, stories, greetings and playful activities the children had the opportunity to learn simple words and phrases while developing an appreciation for Māori culture and language.

The children enjoyed practising greetings such as Kia ora and learning words for colours, numbers, animals and everyday objects. These experiences encourage children to build confidence with language, respect different cultures and understand that there are many wonderful ways to communicate and connect with others.

It was a fun and meaningful day filled with learning, laughter and cultural discovery! 🌿💚

This week, our children are embarking on an exciting African safari adventure! Through imaginative play, stories, music, art and sensory experiences the children will discover the incredible animals and landscapes of Africa. We’ll explore lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras and more while encouraging curiosity, creativity and a love for the natural world.

Our safari experience also provides opportunities to develop language, social skills and teamwork as the children work together to create their own safari, share ideas and engage in imaginative role play.

Most importantly we’ll be encouraging the children to wonder and ask questions and appreciate the wonderful diversity of animals and environments around our world.

Steps Eyesight

What an amazing job our little super stars had done during their eye sight testing at Kinderland Academy.

Eye exams for children are very important to ensure your child's eyes are healthy and have no vision problems that could interfere with school performance and potentially affect your child's safety.

Early eye tests also are important because children need the following visual skills that are essential for optimal learning:
* Excellent visual acuity at all distances
* Accurate and comfortable eye teaming (binocular vision) skills
* Accurate eye movement skills
* Accurate and comfortable focusing skills

International Literacy Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the importance of reading, writing, storytelling and communication in children’s learning and development. At Kinderland the educators support literacy by sharing books, singing songs, telling stories, exploring letters and sounds and encouraging children to express their ideas and imagination. These fun experiences help children build confidence, develop language skills and discover a lifelong love of learning.

At Kinderland the educators during group time and activities discussed with the children that there trusted adults who help keep children safe, including parents, carers, educators and other safe adults in the community. These people listen to children, care for them, help them make safe choices and support them when they feel worried or uncomfortable. Children should know that they can talk to a trusted adult if something does not feel right and that they will be listened to and supported.

R U OK Day

R U You OK day is a wonderful reminder that caring for others starts with checking in. At Kinderland we support children every day to recognise and express their feelings, build trusting relationships and know that it’s okay to ask for help. It’s also important that we check in with the educators, families and colleagues around us because those who care for others need care and support too. A simple “Are you OK?” can open the door to a meaningful conversation and remind someone that they are not alone.

Happy Feet

This week in our Our Body Works class we had lots of fun exploring our five senses and discovering all the different ways we can move our bodies!

We kicked things off with a high energy Happy Feet song, “Body Go Crazy.” The children had a great time moving different parts of their bodies in funny and creative ways before getting their whole bodies moving and going crazy! 🎶💃🕺

After that, we played our Senses Game. While we listened to the music we learnt about our five senses. When the music stopped the children will chose one of the senses and placed it in the correct position. It was a fun way to combine movement, learning and a little bit of problem solving!

Our starfish and turtles children explored a fun and messy shaving foam experience using different colours. They enjoyed touching, squishing, swirling and mixing the foam while observing how colours changed and blended together. This sensory experience encouraged curiosity, creativity and exploration while supporting fine motor skills, hand eye coordination and language development as children described the colours, textures and patterns they discovered.
