And that’s a wrap on Finding Your Fool 😜 my last workshop for the year.

I have mixed feelings about finishing. I’m tired, full, a little emotional, and so bloody grateful.

What a mixed bag of lollies came through the door. People willing to trust me, play with me, learn, fail, feel big things and sometimes walk away with more questions than answers.

That’s all part of it, I reckon.

There were beautiful moments, ridiculous moments, naughty moments and some completely outlandish ones.

Thank you to every fool who stepped into the unknown with me. I really hope I encounter you again somewhere along this strange and wonderful road.

Grab a spliff, make a cup of tea, sit on the toilet…whatever you need to do. This one goes for eight minutes.

I asked Jon Davison if he’d ever thought about walking away from clowning.

What followed was a raw, unfiltered conversation about staying with an artistic practice for decades..: through doubt, exhaustion, ageing and the occasional desire to chuck the whole bloody thing in.

No sound bites. No fu***ng around. Just the questions I actually want to ask, and the space to hear the answer.

My clown has already packed.
Mostly snacks.
Very little dignity.

I got embarrassed by my own kid this week.

He didn’t want to join in with the group. Didn’t want to sing. Didn’t want the toys. Just stood there taking it all in.

And I got irritated.

Very elegant parenting.

Then I realised I wanted him to be fine so I could be fine. I wanted him to walk in, wave goodbye and prove to everyone that I’d made a socially competent little human.

Which got me thinking about clown.

We’re always banging on about being yourself, but what happens when someone’s actual self is cautious, awkward, quiet, slow to enter?

Maybe standing at the edge is part of the game.

I wrote about it, plus a few clown exercises around trust, presence and joining in when you’re actually ready.

A rare Jon Davison has been spotted migrating south for the Australian clowning season.

First, he lands in Brisbane for three days of glorious comic trouble with Andrew Cory’s Jesture | Clown Theatre & Movement Training , 3–5 October.

Then he flaps down to Sydney for two days with us, 10–11 October…now dangerously close to sold out.

Catch him before he disappears back into the mist, leaving only laughter.

Tickets are hopping.
