National Therapy Dog Day …. Well in America, however it gives us a good reason to pause and be really clear about something:
Therapy dogs aren’t just “nice to have” in a program — they change how children experience learning, regulation, and connection.
At Cornerstone Companions, our canine work isn’t about tricks or visits for the sake of it. It’s intentional.
A child who struggles to engage will sit beside a dog and begin to talk.
A child who finds regulation difficult will match their breathing to a calm, steady presence.
A child who finds relationships complex will practise trust in a way that feels safe and predictable.
That’s the work.
It’s slow, relational, and often quiet — but the impact is real and measurable over time.
Today isn’t just about celebrating therapy dogs. It’s about recognising what becomes possible for children when we thoughtfully integrate them into learning and wellbeing programs.
That’s what we’re committed to at Cornerstone Companions.

Small steps. Big courage. 🐾
Take aways from day camp for Year 3 students were all about trust, teamwork, and a little bit of bravery. From steadying hands to wagging tails, every step forward mattered and no one did it alone.
Sometimes growth looks like this: a wobbly plank, a deep breath, and the quiet confidence of knowing someone’s right there with you.
(And yes… our four-legged coach was very hands-on 🐶)

✨ Our Guiding Beliefs ✨
These are the foundations we come back to—every student, every moment, every interaction.
🐶 Behaviour is communication
🐾 Curiosity before judgement
🐶 Regulation is relational
🐾 Neurodiversity is not a deficit
🐶 Connection before correction
🐾 Strength grows where safety is felt
This is the lens we bring into schools.
This is how we create spaces where young people feel seen, safe, and supported to thrive.

On Anzac Day, we remember more than just the soldiers who served — we also honour the animals who stood beside them, often without recognition.
Horses that carried soldiers through impossible terrain. Dogs that ran messages across battlefields. Mules, pigeons, even camels — all relied on in moments of chaos and courage. Many of them never made it home.
The purple poppy is a quiet but powerful reminder of those animals. It sits alongside the red poppy, not in competition with it, but as an expansion of remembrance — acknowledging every life affected by war.
Today, seeing Coco with a purple poppy feels like part of that ongoing story. A gentle symbol that remembrance isn’t only about the past, but about respect, care, and the bonds we continue to form with animals in our lives now.
Lest we forget — all of them.

It’s Friday… and what a way to finish a big first week back for Term 2 🐾
Saige and Remi didn’t even make it home before the week caught up with them—fast asleep, side by side, recharging after days filled with connection, calm moments, and lots of little wins.
Behind the scenes this week has been all about supporting students to settle back into routines, regulate big emotions, and rebuild those important relationships that make school feel safe and predictable. And just like our students, our team feels it too.
Sometimes the most powerful work is quiet.
Sometimes it looks like this… two companions, completely spent, knowing they’ve given everything they had 💛
Rest up, Saige and Remi—we do it all again next week.

Kya understood the assignment earlier this week. 💙
Dressed in her GA uniform and right in the middle of the IPSSO netball try outs, she wasn’t just showing up… she was supporting.
High-pressure environments like trials can bring a mix of nerves, excitement, and self-doubt for students. This is where our canine companions quietly change the game.
Kya’s presence helps to:
✨ Support emotional regulation – students can settle their nerves through calm, predictable interaction
✨ Create a sense of safety and belonging in what can feel like a high-stakes moment
✨ Encourage positive social interactions – a natural conversation starter that builds connection
✨ Provide a grounding focus – helping students reset and re-engage when emotions run high
Research shows that students often need support to recognise and manage emotions like anxiety and excitement in these moments, and safe, supportive environments are key to helping them participate successfully. A calm, responsive presence—whether human or canine—can make all the difference.
And that’s exactly what Kya does.
No whistles. No clipboard. Just quiet impact 🐾

Coco was up bright and early this morning… making sure she was just right before heading off to see her friends at Campbelltown Community Preschool 🐾✨
A quiet moment, a little check-in, and a whole lot of readiness for the day ahead.
These small moments matter.
For many children, transitions into the day can feel big—exciting, sometimes overwhelming, and full of energy. Our Learning Companions help create calm, predictable starts that support emotional regulation and a sense of safety, setting the foundation for connection and learning.
Coco might just be looking in the mirror…
but really, she’s preparing to be a steady, reassuring presence for every child she meets 💛
Ready to greet, ready to connect, and ready to support each little learner just as they are.

Big conversations start with feeling safe. 🐾
As our Stage 3 students begin learning about puberty Oran Park Anglican College , we’re mindful that this journey is about so much more than facts. It’s about emotions, identity, confidence—and feeling secure enough to ask the questions that matter.
That’s where our Learning Companions step in.
With a calm presence and no judgement, our therapy canines help create a space where students can:
✨ regulate big feelings
✨ feel safe during sensitive discussions
✨ engage more openly and confidently
✨ build trust and connection
For some students, just having a Learning Companion nearby is enough to ease anxiety. For others, it’s the gentle reminder that they’re not alone as they navigate new and sometimes overwhelming changes.
This is what trauma-informed, inclusive education looks like—supporting the whole child, not just the content.
Our Learning Companions aren’t here to teach the lesson…
They’re here to make sure every child is ready to learn it. 🐶💛

As we continue building at Cornerstone Companions, this is what drives us every day.
Not just support—but steady support.
Not just strategy—but purposeful, compassionate care.
We believe in walking alongside people through complexity and challenge—creating calm, building capacity, and helping every individual find their footing again.
Because real strength isn’t about having it all together…
it’s about being supported when you don’t.
✨ Grounded in faith
✨ Strength in weakness
✨ Hope in every step
