My son is starting to job hunt so that he is ready for when he finishes high school in September. The transition from school to work life can feel scary and exciting all at once.

Although it’s not the end of the world not having a job or plan lined up after your last day of school, it’s not ideal to be idol or feel lost either.

This is why we have been working hard to get behind our son and get him ready for that next phase of his life.

Having a cover letter to match the resume just brings your application up a notch. Not only does it look really nice and professional but it shows the hiring manager that you went to a fair bit of effort when preparing your application.

I do enjoy getting a bit creative with the resume design, and I’ve tried adding graphics in the past but I find that the graphics can tend to move when you update it and unless you’re tech savvy, it can be fiddly and annoying. So, I keep it simple.

Graphics tend to also take up extra room too which makes the resume go over more pages than necessary.

If you prefer to use graphics, that’s totally cool too. ATS’ (Application Tracking Systems) have improved over the years so a resume that has them should still filter through these systems without a hitch.
