He did it!!! 👏

A huge thank you to Jonathan Frogley for his incredible support of people who stutter.

Through sheer grit, determination, and months of hard work, Jonathan set himself the challenge of running 100 kms to raise awareness of stuttering and funds to support treatment and research.

Not only did he complete the challenge (with ease), but he also inspired thousands of people along the way!

Jonathan's willingness to share his story, push through discomfort, and give back to a community he cares deeply about has been truly inspiring.

From all of us at the ASRC, thank you, Jonathan. Your impact will be felt by many people who stutter and their families for years to come.

🏃‍♂️ 100km for stuttering awareness. One incredible story. One powerful cause.

On Friday 29 May, Jonathan Frogley will take on an extraordinary 100-kilometre ultra-marathon — “Stride for Stuttering” — to raise funds for stuttering research and treatment at the Australian Stuttering Research Centre at UTS.

As someone who has lived with stuttering since childhood, Jonathan knows firsthand the challenges it can bring — and he’s turning that experience into action to help others.

His inspiring story is a powerful reminder of why awareness, early intervention, research, and access to treatment matter. Every step he takes will help support life-changing research and treatment for people who stutter.

Some adults who stutter also experience anxiety—and it can shape how they communicate every day.

You might find yourself:
• Avoiding eye contact
• Swapping out words
• Rehearsing sentences in your head
• Saying less than you want to
• Or avoiding situations altogether

These are known as safety behaviours—and we want to understand them better.

At the Australian Stuttering Research Centre, we’ve created a new tool: the Safety Behaviours Checklist.

Now we’re inviting adults who stutter to take part in a research study to help us validate it.

You can take part if you:
✔️ Are 18 years or older
✔️ Began stuttering before age 12
✔️ Can read and write in English

Your responses will directly contribute to improving support and treatment for people who stutter worldwide.

If this sounds like you—we’d really value your input.

Are you adult who stutters?

Have you noticed that your stuttering might change depending on the situation?

For example, you might stutter more in some situations, and you might stutter less or not at all in others.

Researchers at the Australian Stuttering Research Center are conducting a new study to understand this better, and we’re inviting you to take part.

What if we truly understood the experience of children who stutter? Help us find out!

Does your child (aged 7–12) stutter? Or maybe you’re a speech pathologist working with school-age children who stutter?

We’d love to invite you to be part of an exciting new research project at the Australian Stuttering Research Centre.

Some children who stutter experience unhelpful thoughts about their speech, which can lead to speech-related anxiety. We’re developing a simple new tool to identify these thoughts early—so the right support can be put in place during the school years.

🧒 Who can take part?
Children who stutter aged 7 to 12 years.

💻 What’s involved?
A short online survey, completed from home, at your child’s own pace.

By taking part, you’ll help us create a quick, meaningful way to understand and support the experiences of children who stutter.

A new treatment for young children who stutter

Are you the parent of a young child who has just started to stutter?

If so, you may be eligible to take part in a research study to investigate a new and simple treatment.

As part of the study:
• You will meet weekly with a speech pathologist
• The treatment will be conducted online from the comfort of your home
• your speech pathologist will guide you on how and when to do the treatment with your child

You will be eligible to participate if your child:
✔ Is under 3 years of age
✔ Has never had treatment for stuttering

So if you’d like to find out more about this research, and see if you are eligible to participate, contact us today!

Jonathan recently met with Mark and asked:
"What’s the best advice you would give a parent if they’ve noticed their child has just started stuttering?"

Mark’s answer was simple—but powerful:

If your child has recently started stuttering, don’t wait and see—get informed early.

Stuttering often begins in the preschool years, and early support can make a real difference. The most important first step is to seek advice from a speech pathologist experienced in stuttering.

At the same time, there are a few helpful things parents can do right away:

• Stay calm and reassuring
• Give your child time to finish what they want to say
• Focus on what they are saying, not how they are saying it
• Keep conversations relaxed and unhurried

Avoid telling your child to “slow down” or “think before you speak”—these well-meaning comments can sometimes increase pressure.

Most importantly:
👉 Stuttering is no one’s fault—and effective, evidence-based treatments are available.

Early support can set children up for confident communication.

If you’re unsure what to do next, reaching out for guidance is a great place to start.
