WHAT IS THE RESEARCH ABOUT?

The purpose of this research is to examine the accuracy of a smartphone application for gait (walk) analysis in detecting minor changes in walking style when an individual steps on something painful while consciously trying to maintain their normal walking style.

The gait analysis data will be compared to the visual assessment recorded by the experienced research-clinician (Biara). The results are expected to provide insight into the appropriateness of using smartphone gait analysis apps in clinical populations to assist decisions and monitor treatment outcomes for various neurological and musculoskeletal disorders.

05/06/2026

Biara has been a clinical exercise physiologist since 2011, having extensive experience in the rehabilitation of sub-acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries, including those impacted by and impacting the patient’s gait.
Biara is enrolled in the Master of Physiotherapy (Research), with this study being one of her higher degree research projects.
