You can be high functioning and still not feel aligned.

Meeting every deadline and being the one everyone relies on doesn't answer the quieter question underneath.

That question might be the start of your next honest decision.

Success doesn't always mean the decision still fits the woman you are today.

It's worth asking: does this still fit me, or am I still running on a version of myself from years ago?

That's where real clarity starts.

A strong, independent woman can be doing well on paper and still realise she has stopped including herself in her own decisions.

Work gets done.
People can rely on her.
Responsibilities are handled.

But when was the last time she asked, “What do I want in this season of my life?”

Capability is not the problem.

The question is whether you can still hear yourself inside everything you are capable of carrying.

Come back to yourself.

A capable woman does not need to become less capable in order to create a healthier relationship with work.

The shift may begin with recognising where contribution ends and proving begins.

If you’re a strong, independent woman who has been doing so much for so long that hearing what you want next feels difficult, my free Clarity PDF offers a gentle place to begin.

For some women, working harder is not simply about wanting to achieve more.

Work may represent security.

Income.
Stability.
Being able to provide.
Knowing the bills will be paid.

That is why “just do less” can miss the deeper reason a woman keeps pushing herself.

Sometimes we need to understand what the work has come to mean.

We praise the person who always steps in.

Then when she is overloaded, we tell her to manage her workload better.

Both personal choices and workplace culture matter.

If “she can handle it” keeps becoming the reason she is given more, we should be willing to question the pattern to

Being the person everyone can rely on feels good.

Until reliability starts being treated like unlimited capacity.

Capability should be recognised.

It shouldn’t automatically become permission to keep adding more.

The reliable woman at work often receives a very particular reward for being reliable.

More.

Another task.
Another problem.
Another gap to cover.

Her capability is praised, and because she keeps delivering, people keep trusting her with more.

Then when the workload becomes too much, the advice changes.

“You need better work-life balance.”
“Don’t take so much on.”
“You need to manage your workload.”

Reliability is a strength.

But a woman should not have to continually prove her value by carrying more than everyone else.

When my son was three and a half, I became a single mother.

Suddenly there was so much to hold.

I was working.
Raising him.
Doing the pickups and drop-offs.
Cooking.
Cleaning.
Trying to create security and keep life moving.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, I started studying for a management degree.

When I look back at that period now, I honestly think, how did I do all of that?

At the time, I didn’t sit around analysing what being “strong” meant.

I was simply doing what I believed needed to be done.

What I understand differently now is that I wasn’t only carrying responsibilities.

I was carrying ideas about who I needed to be.

I wanted to be a good mother.

I wanted to provide.

I wanted to keep learning and growing.

I didn’t want motherhood to mean that I stopped developing professionally or somehow fell behind.

I wanted my work to matter.

I wanted to matter.

I look at that younger version of myself with a lot of respect now.

She was doing the best she knew how to do with an enormous amount on her shoulders.

And I can also see that strength was never the whole story.

There were needs, hopes, fears and dreams underneath all that capability.

That chapter of my life is part of why I understand the strong, independent woman so deeply today.

Sometimes the woman who can carry so much still needs somewhere she can hear herself too.

Come back to yourself.
