NSW Open WorldSkills Australia Regional Competitions Underway at TAFE NSW Lidcombe.
The NSW Open Regional Competitions are officially off and running for 2026, with TAFE NSW Lidcombe hosting a successful Cabinetmaking and Joinery competition this week in conjunction with its annual Trade Open Day.
The Trade Open Day brought together industry representatives, vendors, and suppliers, providing a vibrant platform to showcase products, services, and ongoing support for the timber and finishing trades. The event highlighted the strong connection between training providers and industry, reinforcing pathways from education into employment.
Both Sydney West Regional Competitions were supported by groups of eager, focused, and highly motivated students, who demonstrated their skills, knowledge, and talent in front of teachers and industry representatives as they worked towards achieving the best possible outcomes.
The day was coordinated by Lincoln Costello, Head Teacher Allied Timber Trades, with the support of teaching, technical, and support staff across the faculty.
The Cabinetmaking competition was convened by Kris Laws, 2005 WorldSkills Australia Helsinki Skillaroo and now full-time TAFE NSW teacher.
The Joinery competition was convened by Colin Lindburg, Head Teacher Shopfitting and Joinery, with judging oversight and competition preparation led by Charlie Borg.
Final projects will be marked over the coming weeks, with results to be announced shortly.
A sincere thank you and appreciation to everyone involved for their commitment and support of these skill categories, helping to strengthen state participation and build momentum towards future national representation.
